Robinson 60th Anniversary

Jack and Billie Robinson will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on March 14, 2012.

Jack and Billie met in the Fall of 1951 on a blind date. After a whirlwind romance with the imminent possibility any day of a draft notice from “Uncle Sam,” They were married by Rev. Crawford, in the church office of South Main Baptist Church, Houston, Texas on March 14, 1952.

A draft notice was received and Jack was drafted into the United States Army on May 5, 1952. They spent the next two years at Camp Roberts, Calif. and Ft. Ord, Calif. After completing “basic training,” Jack went into Cook School, eventually becoming an instructor. Due to phasing out of Camp Roberts the Cook School was the first to be closed; then the remainder of his tour of duty Jack served as cook in several basic training units. Billie also worked for the government, on base, as a receptionist at Post Engineers.

After their tour of duty they returned to Houston where they lived for 24 years. They had three sons: Jay, Barry and Rodney. All three sons were baptized in the same church, by the same pastor, Rev. Earl Hahn. (Hahn, at age 89, is still pastor of Faith Temple Baptist Church, Houston: see Baptist Standard 1/8/2007).

Billie was a “stay at home mom” for the first 14 years; then did office work for three different companies, primarily Fox Photos. Jack was office manager for Abex Corp. in Houston for 24 years; then transferred to Corsicana in 1978. With a total of 31 years, he retired from Abex, which later became G.E. Billie retired after 16 years from Medical Arts Clinic as receptionist in the ophthalmology department.

Their middle son, Barry and his wife Sharon live in Corsicana. He has been with Corsicana Technologies for 30 years and Sharon, 30 years with CISD. Rodney, their youngest son and his son Chaese live in the San Antonio area. Rodney has been in tele-communications for 25 years. Their oldest son, Jay, lived in the Houston area all his life. He worked for the Houston Fire Department for 31 years. Jay, a Junior Fire Captain, died suddenly Oct. 5, 2005 of a severe heart attack at the age of 50. He left behind a wife of 21 years and two young sons. Following the tradition of honoring fallen firefighters, he was carried to his final resting place atop a pumper fire truck followed by the HFD Honor Guard along with many fire trucks and firefighters.

Both Jack and Billie firmly believe their Christian faith has sustained them throughout 60 years of marriage and has comforted them in all their losses. They are members of Northside Baptist Church.
