Galaway 50th Anniversary


LaVerne and Nelson Galaway will mark their 50th wedding anniversary August 21, 2009.

The couple were married August 21, 1959 at Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Retreat. Both are lifelong residents of Navarro County. Nelson is retired from the Texas Department of Transportation. The former LaVerne Singleton of Mildred is a retired day-care provider.

The couple was surprised by their children and grandsons while visiting in Jacksonville with a limousine and dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse on the beautiful St. John’s River in Jacksonville, Florida. The reception was hosted by Donna Galaway Libal and her husband Rick of Orange Park, Fla.; Scott Galaway of Houston; Austin Libal of Orange Park and John David Galaway of Houston.

The Galaways are active members of Second Avenue Missionary Baptist Church where Nelson is a deacon and adult Sunday School teacher. LaVerne is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and teaches a pre-school Sunday school class.

Both are avid golfers and enjoy traveling and playing throughout the country. They are taking a 50th wedding anniversary trip to New York City, Boston, Bar Harbor, Maine and Niagara Falls.
