In the season opener for both schools, Corsicana was defeated Tuesday night by the Lorena Leopards, 62-47, at Tiger Gym.
Both teams started slowly, ending the first half with a 29-22 Lorena lead.
Lorena came out of the break and jumped to a 20-point lead while the Tigers (0-1) were only able to score five and, and ended the third quarter trailing 52-27.
Although starting the fourth with a quick flurry of points, the Tigers’ comeback was snuffed out by the Leopards’ strong defense.
The Tigers were carried by senior Antonie Chaney, who had a team-high 25 points. Chaney also tallied five rebounds and four steals.
Devin White played an important role in the Tigers’ scoring with 16 points of his own.
Lorena (1-0) was led by the 6-2 senior Travis McAninch, who finished the game with 19 points.
Twenty-three of Lorena’s 62 points came off the bench, compared to the Tigers’ two registered by freshman Hunter Denbow.
The Tigers will face off against the Tyler Lee Red Raiders Saturday at 1 p.m. at Corsicana High School.
