“It was one of those games where the other team was very solid,” Tigers coach Tom Sanchez said. “It feels good to get out there, knowing that you have to have patience and keep working it.”
Maria Castaneda put the Tigers on the board at 55 minutes into the game assisted by Tomas Luevanos. It came on a long punt by goalie John Garcia.
Alexis Bernal scored the second goal on a header off a cross from Castaneda.
“That was beautiful,” Sanchez said. “A diving header. It was very well done.”
Sergio Ballesteros hit one with his left foot off a cross from Diego Rodriguez.
“He just poked it one time,” Sanchez said of Ballesteros’ goal in the right corner of the net with two minutes in the game.”
Garcia wasn’t tested, but he did have a key stop with the Tigers holding onto a 1-0 lead.
