If I haven’t made it abundantly clear over the past few years, I think the BcS bowl system is a crock. I thought that I had been pretty unequivocal about the subject, but I didn’t want to leave any doubt.
I have no problem with the national championship game between Texas and Alabama. They have had their lofty rankings all season long. Now, I’m not sure either one of them will actually be the best team in the country, but I can’t argue with them playing in Pasadena. Personally, I’m not sure that either of them could beat TCU.
The problem I have with the BcS has to do with the Fiesta Bowl. TCU could have been playing Florida in the Sugar Bowl. They could have shown what they were capable of against the (almost) season-long number one team in the nation.
I guess that could have been a problem for the BcS, however. If the Frogs showed up the defending national champions, it might just prove how flawed the entire bowl system is. The folks from Fort Worth might just prove to be the frog in the ointment.
The BcS folks can now boast about how the Fiesta Bowl has two undefeated teams playing in the desert. They can tell us about how historic it is to have such a showdown for the first time in college football history. They can tell us all of that, but we all know it’s a bunch of BcS.
Sure, TCU will get a big payday, and that’s great. However, the BcS gets to stick the two non-BcS teams off to themselves. They can play to find out who is the better team from among the smaller conferences. It won’t matter to the bowl system who wins. Neither TCU nor Boise State can embarrass the big boys like Boise did a couple of years ago against OU. How embarrassing was that?
But, wait! Am I dissing Cincinnati? I don’t think so. They should have lost to Pittsburg last weekend. Besides, no one wanted the Bearcats. They bring no crowd, and now they’ll be playing with an interim coach.
For those of you who are Horned Frog fans, keep your head up. Gary Patterson just got an extension. He’s going nowhere. If having Patterson back isn’t enough, the Frogs return 16 starters next season.
If not for a Colt McCoy pass hitting the guardrail to stop the clock with one tick remaining, TCU would be playing the Crimson Tide. Now, that would have hurt the BcS.
Yeah, I’m a grassy knoll kind of guy. I don’t think it was an accident that the Fort Worth toads would up playing someone with a blue home field. I think the BcS conspired to hide TCU to avoid any embarrassing situation, but I don’t think they can hide them for long. TCU may do what congress wants to, before congress can get to it.
Between the Frogs and our congressman, maybe we can stop all the BcS. All I can say right now is that I’m very proud of all those votes I’ve cast over the years for Joe Barton.
I don’t care if you do live in Ennis, Joe. You go, boy.
