Keith Frazier, director of a 24-hour crisis line and mobile crisis team services, will speak to Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance Tuesday in the Parish Hall of St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. 14th St.
The speech and power point presentation will begin at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to arrive as early as 6:30 p.m. to browse literature, register for door prizes, and enjoy refreshments.
Frazier is familiar to people working in and being serviced by the local mental health community because of his previous role as director of Adapt of Texas in Corsicana and in Waxahachie. As Navarro County DBSA’s guest speaker in 2005, he explained his responsibilities with Adapt and the outreach of this local organization.
In April 2006, Frazier became executive director of Adapt Community Solutions, which averages 1,400 phone calls, and up to 400 face-to-face crisis interventions per month. The activity of his team of more than 25 people and the state of mental health services in general will be the subject of his presentation.
According to a flyer, Adapt Community Solutions is the provider for the mental health and substance abuse crisis line and mobile crisis team services for adults, adolescents, and children. ACS services are available to any person or agency in the NorthSTAR area, which includes Dallas, Ellis, Navarro, Kaufman, Hunt, Rockwall and Collin counties. The crisis line at (866) 260-8000 is answered 24 hours per day throughout the year. At times, crises can be resolved over the phone, while other situations require face-to-face intervention. There is no charge to the client, caller, or other agencies.
The crisis line provides information about mental health and substance abuse problems, information about local resources, and support to individuals and families in crisis. The mobile crisis team provides on-site crisis interventions, assistance with appointment scheduling with mental health and substance abuse providers, and referrals to other social service agencies; moreover, the team facilitates hospitalization when necessary.
Frazier, a licensed professional counselor, holds a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University. His Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M-Commerce; is in psychology, with a minor in counseling.
“One of the primary reasons I decided to work in this field is I have a family member who suffers from mental illness,” Frazier said. “Living through it, I have a unique perspective. In addition, I am a strong believer in the importance of community service, of being part of a helping profession.”
Navarro County DBSA exists to support people living with depression and bipolar illnesses, and their loved ones. Founded in January 2005, it is affiliated with the national organization. Meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday in the Parish Hall building of St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. 14th St.
