Event Calendar

Adult softball

• The JAK Sports Complex will be hosting multiple adult slow-pitch tournaments over the next few weekends. Located just across from Kerens High School, the four-field complex will be hosting a men’s tournament on May 26-27. A Co-ed tournament will be held April 21-22. Team registration for the event will be $150.

• A Waco-area AAU 16-and-under girls basketball team coached by former Baylor Lady Bear Jordan Davis will hold tryouts today.

• The JAK Sports Complex will be hosting the Fast Pitch Classic, April 14-15 for any 12-and-under or 14-and-under teams wishing to play.

• The Corsicana Girls Softball Association will have an umpire certification on April 15 at 2:00 at Optimist fields.



baseball

• Mildred will be hosting two baseball tournaments toward the end of April.

The inaugural Tyler Malone Benefit T-ball boys and girls tournament costs $75 per team. Each game will play for 50 minutes. Then teams will rotate to the next position. There will be raffles and concession stand along with T-shirts for sale.

All profits go to Mr. and Mrs. James Grigar to help with medical cost and home remodeling to accommodate handicap people.

A machine pitch tournament will follow on April 28. The tournament fee will be $75 per team with each game lasting 50 minutes.

• Dawson youth baseball will be hosting a T-ball tournament Saturday, April 14. Entry fee is $75. For more information, contact Mike Slater at (903)

• Blooming Grove youth baseball will host a machine pitch tournament and a senior midget tournament May 4-5. Entry fee will be $50. For more information, contact Kevin Keating at (214) 929-6542.



Volleyball

• The Corsicana YMCA youth volleyball league is currently forming now through May 15.

Youth in grades four through nine (as of Fall ‘07) are welcome to participate in the league that will play every Tuesday and Thursday night starting June 12 at the YMCA.

Registration will be $20 for family member, $30 youth member and $60 for non-member. Sibling discounts and financial aid are available.

Team shirts are provided and players are encouraged to wear knee pads.

GOLF

• The Kerens Area Chamber of Commerce will have a golf tournament at the Oak Trail Golf Course in Corsicana. Lunch will be available as well. To register or to sponsor a hole, call the Kerens Area Chamber of Commerce at (903) 396-2391



Martial Arts

• A field day to help pay for free martial arts classes for battered women and young people with anger management issues will take place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 21 at the Extreme MX park on Business 45. Frank Nguyen, three-time middle-weight champion of mixed martial arts, will be conducting martial arts demonstrations. The event will also feature a bounce house, pony carousel, balloon artists, and games. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 5-12, and free for children
