Tiger slide: CHS gives up 10-point lead to Midlothian
It has slowly become natural for the Tigers.
Start slow, put together two solid quarters and struggle in the fourth quarter.
That’s exactly what happened Friday against Midlothian as the Tigers took a 10 point lead in the third quarter and was outscored 16-8 in a wild fourth and fell to the Panthers 42-40.
Midlothian’s Derek Bryant scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to erase the large Tiger lead.
After trailing the entire first quarter, the Tigers got their first lead midway through the second quarter after Johnny Guions hit his first of back-to-back field goals.
The Tigers held on and took a one-point lead into the locker room.
Corsicana opened the third on a 10-0 run that was capped off by a LaQuintis Holbert three-pointer.
Midlothian fought back and came within three points until Aaron Gant hit the Tigers’ fourth three-point field goal of the game at the buzzer to put the Tigers up by six going into the fourth quarter.
The Panthers (3-0 in District 15-4A) opened the quarter on an 9-2 run, with Bryant contributing seven points as part of the run.
Bryant hit a three with 3:18 left in the game to tie the game for the first time since the second quarter.
After shooting a dismal 0-6 in the first half from the free-throw line, Bryant connected on a pair of free-throws to retake the lead for the Panthers.
Midlothian finished the game shooting 8-18 from the free-throw line.
With three-tenths of a second on the clock, the Tigers threw in a desperation inbounds play that fell just short.
