Tigers’ team tennis splits weekend matches
The Tigers took a break from district play, winning one of their two matches during a quad meet in Tyler Saturday.
It was a rough start for the Tigers, falling to Texas High 10-5 to begin the day.
In girl’s singles, Katelyn Nease and Ambree Corrington each won their matches while the Tigers’ boys were swept by Texas High in singles.
Corrington and Cindy Vaquera teamed up in girl’s doubles to defeat Texas High’s Jenni Markham and Meaghan Rosser 6-2, 6-3.
In boy’s doubles the Tigers came away with just one win from the pairing of Haden Davis and Andrew Leskoven.
“Texas High has a really tough team,” Tigers coach Jason White said. “Their boys are really good, but I was a little disappointed about how our boys competed in singles after putting up a really good fight in the doubles.”
The Tigers (10-3, 4-0 District 16-4A) had an easier time in their afternoon match, getting past Lindale 11-8.
Lindale and the Lady Tigers split the girl’s singles matches 3-3, but the Lady Eagles took control in girl’s doubles with all three wins.
The boy’s side regained the lead for the Tigers with straight set singles wins by Nick Tafacory, Leskoven, Robert Cho, Davis and Joey Motley.
The Tigers duos of Tafacory/Motley and Cho/Cesar Ramirez had to fight through three sets to get their wins in boy’s doubles as the Tigers sealed the win over Lindale.
“I was very proud of how we rebounded for the afternoon match,” White said. “Lindale also has a very good team, and our boys and girls really came out with a lot of fight and effort.
“I know they didn't want to lose two matches in the same day. Hopefully, competing against these good teams on these long Saturdays will continue to prepare us for our remaining district matches and hopefully regionals.”
