AREA ROUNDUP: Lady Tigers take one of two in Scurry-Rosser

Dawson boys win at Riesel; Hubbard girls roll at Bruceville-Eddy

Amber Aimes had 29 points as the Lady Tigers won their second game of the Scurry-Rosser tournament, 48-41, over Arlington Oakridge.

After leading at the half, 19-18, the Lady Tigers (2-6) broke it open in the second half, outscoring Oakridge 29-13. Tauren Kitchen added nine for the Lady Tigers, who play Dallas Christian Academy at 1:30 today.

The Lady Tigers lost their opener, 35-30, to Kemp. Tavia McHenry and Jackie Saipongi each had eight to lead the Lady Tigers.

Hubbard 79, Rockdale 25

The Lady Jaguars had little trouble in improving to 7-1 as seven players scored in a romp at the Bruceville-Eddy tournament.

Africa Lang led the way with 23, while Iesha Simmons had 21 and Rayven Cornish added 17.

The Lady Jaguars led 20-1 after the first period of play.

Rice 36, Frost 23

Two days after falling to the Lady Bears at home, the Lady Bulldogs extracted a little revenge at the Avalon tournament.

Ali Barker had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Sara Rhodes had 10 points to pace Rice (2-4). Celina Smithers had 16 rebounds and nine points.

Krystal Jackson had 15 to lead Frost (3-1), and Patricia Garcia added six.

It was tied, 10-10, at the half, but Rice outscored the Lady Bears 15-6 in the third.

Leon 66, Kerens 65

In a high-scoring affair the LadyCats lost by the slimmest of margins Thursday in the Frankston tournament.

Leon hit 13 three-pointers and was 12 of 14 from the free throw line. Kerens led 50-48 heading into the fourth.

Nicole Kelm had 17 points to pace four LadyCats in double figures. Taneque Williams and Michelle Jordan each had 12, and Michelle Bivins added 11.

Boys

Dawson 53, Bremond 47

In a rematch between two teams that played Tuesday, the Bulldogs made it two straight over the Tigers as Dustin Sanders had 18 points.

The two teams were tied at the half, but Dawson marched to a 42-39 lead after three and never looked back.

Nick Renfro added 10 for the Bulldogs, and Michael Passini had nine.

Rice 67, Hubbard JV 39

The Bulldogs raced out to a 30-17 halftime edge and cruised in the second half to win their first game and improve to 1-4.

Blake Lewis scored 14 points to lead 11 Bulldogs who registered points. Shaquille Fields added 11.

China Spring 58, Frost 44

Danial Steels and Philip Page each scored 15 points, but it wasn't enough for Frost in a 58-44 loss to China Spring on Thursday in a first-round game of the Blooming Grove Tournament.

Frost (3-2) had David Rios added eight points. The Polar Bears trailed, 30-25, at halftime.
