Frost Invitational Boys: Vanguard holds down Polar Bears, 34-24

FROST — Philip Page scored 14 points Frost, but it was Vanguard that won the Frost Invitational, beating the Polar Bears, 34-24, on Saturday.

Frost (7-4) led a low-scoring game, 6-4, after the first quarter, but Vanguard led at halftime, 17-14. Vanguard then outscored Frost, 11-4, in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Dawson 47, Blooming Grove 30: Dawson bounced back from its first loss of the season, racing past Blooming Grove, 47-30, in the third-place game of the Frost Invitational.

“Our kids played with a lot of energy,” Dawson coach Gary Kay said. “I was amazed considering that was our eighth game in 11 days.”

Dustin Sanders scored 17 points to lead all Dawson scorers. Nick Renfro had 11 points and Steven Travis had 10.

Justin Brown led Blooming Grove scorers with nine points.
