Holiday celebrations set
Corsicana's Freedom Festival begins at 6 p.m. at IOOF Park
There will be plenty of opportunities to celebrate July 4th Saturday in Navarro County.
The Corsicana Rotary Club will host its annual Freedom Festival beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the I.O.O.F. Park, 1400 N. 45th St. The event will include a performance by local band New Life, as well as a clown and bounce houses for children. The professional fireworks display by Lone Star Pyrotechnics will begin around 9 p.m.
Additional parking will be available at Tiger Stadium nearby. The free event is sponsored by the Community Foundation and the Annie Lee Robbins Charitable Trust.
In Kerens, the Independence Day celebration there is hosted by the Kerens Chamber of Commerce. The downtown event will include a Fourth of July picnic with ice cream, watermelon, hot dogs, games and the fireworks display just after dark. The celebration will begin around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Dawson’s Independence Day Parade kicks off a swing through downtown around 10 a.m. Saturday. Following the parade, the festivities will center on downtown Dawson, where there will be vendors, a barbecue cook-off, tractor pull and car show. Billy Roy Mitcham and the Heart of the Night band will provide music for a street dance Saturday night. Residents are urged to bring their own lawn chairs.
Dawson won’t have fireworks this year, out of concern about the hot, dry conditions, explained Mayor Linda Bryant.
The Blooming Grove Fourth of July parade will begin at 11 a.m., and floats, horses, car and other vehicles are welcomed to join in as the parade winds through downtown Blooming Grove.
