Corsicana — Appreciates support

To the Editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community and school family of Blooming Grove ISD for ten wonderful years.  Each of you will always have a special place in our hearts.  

Pam and I would like to thank you for making us a part of your lives. We could not have asked for a better place or a better family to raise our children. Our kids’ success in the future is largely due to the roles that you played in their lives. We will carry fond memories with us into our next adventure of the people, staff, and students at “The Garden Spot of Navarro County.”

I also would like to thank each and every member of the Blooming Grove ISD board of trustees, past and present, for your vision to make Blooming Grove ISD the greatest school district in the state of Texas. Your efforts largely are ignored, but I want to express my gratitude personally for your service.

If I can ever be of assistance in the future, feel free to call or come by to see us.  You will be in our thoughts and prayers for your continued success.

Gratitude expressed

To the Editor: Thank you to the businesses and individuals who so generously offered their time and financial support to make the 1st Team Supreme Youth Track Team “Fish Fry” a success. The youth, parents and Coach Terry Douglas really appreciate the community support. This was our first event of this magnitude, we have learned a lot to make the next one even better.  We thank you for being patient, it was all about supporting our youth.

To the Editor: As Bernie Goldberg says in his book “A Slobbering Love Affair” this paper prints just about anything Vicky Prater has to say whether it is correct or not, yet in your letters to the editor policy you state that slanderous statements will not be printed. But when it comes to Ms. Prater, she can say anything she likes and you do or say nothing.  

Is it because you agree with what she says and you just do not want to say it for fear of making your readers mad?  

In her rant about the power plant she make reference to them trying to do anything to cut what they would owe, yet there is no proof that they would do any such thing.  

Stop this pandering.

Road question

To the Editor: After reading the article by Janet Jacobs on the update of “the summer street projects” I don’t remember anything about the proposed widening of South 15th Street from the railroad out to I-45.  

Has this project been sidelined again?  

I have lived south if Corsicana for over 50 years and the road has always been a disgrace to our fair town.

To the Editor: I would like to take this time to ask you to vote for Darrell Shelton for Commissioner, Precinct 1. I have known this young man for a number of years and know him to be an honest, knowledgeable person who will be an asset to this position. He knows about road construction and he knows about financial responsibility. He is a fine Christian man.

Please vote, early voting is July 23 to 27, or vote July 31. Your vote does count.

In support of Grant

To the Editor: I would like to take this opportunity to support Jason Grant as Republican Candidate for Navarro County Commissioner Precinct 1.  

I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Jason for the past 13 years. As a candidate, Jason has proven his dedication and perseverance and I have witnessed these qualities continuously in Jason’s work ethic over the years. Jason’s law enforcement experience has gifted him with the ability to see all sides of any given situation without being judgmental. This skill will allow him to serve as a very public-minded commissioner with no hidden agendas.  

Those of us who choose to make our careers in public service are driven, not by money, but by our need to improve our neighbors’ lives and our community. You will not find a better example of this than Jason Grant. He has a pure, basic instinct bred in him that this ability just comes naturally to him. Jason has pledged to clean up the county, strive to bring in new businesses and continue to fight against crime and violence by supporting all of our area law enforcement agencies.

I predict that after the citizens of Navarro County see Jason in action as Precinct 1 County Commissioner, all of those who voted for him will hold their heads high, and those that didn’t will probably claim they did.

Remember early voting begins July 23.

Soundoff time

To the Editor: As a lead footed driver I’m delighted to see the speed limit increased to 75 mph. I so wish that were the case going north on I-45, towards Dallas, as well as south. But please, does anyone really believe that the reason the limits will remain at their current low levels is due to “air quality restrictions?” It’s because these poor, little municipalities rely on fine revenue for their police department’s very existence. Okay, that may be a bit of exaggeration but I guarantee you speeding tickets make up a large portion of their revenue.
