Grateful for care

To the Editor: I want to express my gratitude to all the wonderful people of Navarro Regional Hospital who cared for me recently when I was a patient there. You were all great! You deserve to be thanked individually, but information overload has made me forget some of your names. Thank you all so much.

There are people in Corsicana who feel better care can be gotten elsewhere. In my opinion, this would be true only for medical specialties not offered here, but for such specialties as are offered here,you will not find better care elsewhere.

Maybe “shyness” is part of the problem. We all know people who work at Navarro Regional Hospital. Healthcare is unavoidably intimate, but people who work in healthcare are caring, compassionate professionals whether they work here or in some other hospital.

Since I did once work at Navarro Regional Hospital, it was good to renew old friendships. I met many new people whose professional skills were appreciated, but I also felt the sense of caring and friendship from them.

Both the professionalism and your compassion gave me a great sense of safety, and the feeling that I’d really rather be among friends under the circumstances. Again, thank you all.

A ‘slice’ of Heaven

To the Editor: The Bible says that God created the heavens and earth in six days and on the seventh, he rested.

Certainly not to compare the power of God to an earthly endeavor but that’s how long it took to give rebirth to the Oaks Golf Course, six days but with no rest on the seventh.

Anyone who has driven up Business 45 has noticed that something has happened. A freshness has been awakened that can’t help but put a smile on any resident or visitor to our community. A beautiful public golf course, better than ever and alive with business!

Mike Atkeisson, Bob Luther and company have marshaled the troops and for six days, from the time the weed-eaters and mowers went to work (manned solely by volunteers), a gem was rediscovered.

Mike has his son Will, brothers Bobby and B.D. make this a course anyone would be proud to play. The rates are very reasonable, the greens better than ever and grass is growing where no grass ever grew before. Course play is steady and running out of carts has become a common occurrence. Mike has brought back the Thursday evening scramble that has become a sell-out a week in advance and the Wednesday senior scramble is better than ever getting together all of us over 50 guys for much needed fellowship and fun.

And don’t forget about the driving range!

Yet another Top 10

To the Editor: Letterman won’t see this list either, but here are President Obama’s possible answers to other people’s Top 10 list:

#10 — We haven’t thrown enough money down the drain like Bush/Chaney did for their private contractor friends and “no-bid” war contractors.

#9 — Don’t blame me — it’s corporate executives who hide behind government’s corporate rules which protect them for personal responsibility and liability and allows them to get excessive pay while the company is dying.

#8 — The White House ran out of “fatcat” food because the Bush/Chaney bunch used it up.

#7 — The wealth is not being spread around fast enough because many corporations won’t pay their employees a livable wage and health benefits. (Ref. #9)

#6 — The rich aren’t standing still, but hiding their earnings behind tax dodges they paid congressmen to pass.

#5 — We ran out of auto companies to take over in order to save a few of the shrinking manufacturing jobs in the U.S.

#4 — Blame Sarah Palin? — the woman who told everyone one her pregnant daughter and the boyfriend would be married as soon as the baby was born. Can’t blame her, she has her own problems.

#3 — The Bush White House printed so much money running up their own deficits, when we got it, it was overheated.

#2 — Red China won’t lend me more money, but Bush’s Saudi Arabian buddies will, along with another group of plane terrorists.

#1 — It took Bush eight years to get us in this mess, it won’t get fixed overnight and I will make some mistakes.

About that park

To the Editor: The mayor park

I’ve been thinking why don’t we name this park to honor all mayors — past, present and future — who served this city with the utmost unselfish service and dedication all these years without pay.

I take my hat off to all the previous mayors and to Buster Brown who put his money where his mouth is to better Corsicana for all.

I do hope that I got my message across.

Thanks for support

To the Editor:

From our volleyball hearts — our team volleyball camp in July at University of Texas at Austin was a great experience and we could not have done it without the support of our local business community. A special thank you is extended to: Gilfillan’s, The Other Place, City National Bank, Pactiv Corporation, Cason’s Flowers, Dealer’s Electrical Supply, and Darrell Van Horn, DMD, MS. We also had two large supporters who really went above and beyond by donating a large amount to our team. They wish to remain anonymous, however, they are thought of in our hearts (you know who you are). It is a great feeling to know your local community is there to offer support and helped us get to camp. Eleven girls were able to go to volleyball camp without having to pay any fees. We worked very hard to raise additional money through garage sales, car washes and bake sales. “Always know good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.” Psalm 112:5. Thanks again and we hope to see you at our volleyball games this season. Go Lady Tigers!
