To the Editor: A letter in the Dec. 16 edition of the Daily Sun urges Representative Byron Cook to withdraw support for Joe Straus to continue as Speaker of the House.

From what I can learn about Straus’s past performance as Speaker, the main objection raised by his detractors is that he has sometimes actually cooperated with Democrats. Oh, and another thing that seems to bother Straus’s opponents: He insists upon orderly, civil discussion on the House floor — no name calling or shouting matches.

With attributes like that, the possibility of constructive legislation is bound to be enhanced. Straus deserves Cook’s support; I hope he gets it.
