To the Editor: The Corsicana Animal Services Department had a very successful Derrick Days Adoption Event, adopting a total of 33 animals to new homes.  Of course this wonderful outcome would be impossible without the tireless efforts of the following candidates, businesses, and individuals for their continued support:

Standing ovation

To the Editor: Wow! Monday evening Corsicana High School was filled With the "Sound of Music"

Joel Trimble , J. B. Kirkpatrick  and beloved Hub Hill were smiling down listening to the Drane, Collins and Corsicana High School Band Concert.  I was thrilled with pride and joy as the almost full auditorium enthusiastically  applauded each selection.

The excellent performance of each band was truly awesome, especially Drane Middle School.  These students played so proficiently, and that was amazing.  Nine months ago, the majority of them could not read a note of music and were learning to play their instruments. Their instructor, Jeff Osbourn is to be complimented on their beautiful performance.

Bre Osbourn did double duty.  Her Collins Band, second and third year musicians were great.  Then stepping in taking over the High School Band director's position, Mrs. Osbourn took the Tiger Band and won honors at the UIL Marching Contest.  Monday night, the same musicians played like professionals.  The audience had a treat, as the Osburns had Jeffrey Ward, a college music major, conduct one number.

Not only was I pleased with the sound, but also with the number of students in the bands.  My children were members of the Tiger Band when the new high school opened in 1970, with the band numbering over 200 students.  Through the years, the numbers have dwindled; but Monday, the bands filled the stage, and the students were having fun and taking pride in being a member of the Corsicana Band Program.

Reyna supports Smith

To the Editor: I served as a Justice on the 10th Court of Appeals for over six years.

In the May 29 Republican primary for the 10th Court’s Chief Justice, I recommend voting for Judge Steve Smith, who is a distinguished district and county court trial judge for 17 years and board-certified in civil trial law.

In the State Bar’s recent judicial poll for this race, lawyers, who best know the two candidates in their judicial capacity, favored Judge Smith over his opponent Tom Gray in a landslide, 63 percent to 37 percent.
