Moore Family Reunion and Moore Family Ladies Tea

Corsicana —

On Saturday, June 16, 2012 the Moore Family Reunion was enjoyed by 72 family members or close friends of Sidney Meshack and Henrietta (Crowmeans) Moore.

The reunion was held at The Lion’s Den in downtown Blooming Grove.

The family tree quilt of the Stanford Moore and Dora (Garrett) Moore was on display, as well as a posterboard family tree of Meshack Moore and John B. Garrett.

Alvin H. Moore turned 90 years young on Jan. 14, 2012. He led the family in a wonderful prayer.

He was honored with a large display of photos of his life, and a pretty decorated cake for Father’s Day. The group sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” to him.

Mary J. (Moore) Johnson, the oldest granddaughter, told stories that Henrietta Moore told about their “courting days.” Lots of hugs and lots of pictures and very good food was enjoyed by all.

The day before, all the Moore ladies gathered to enjoy the second annual Moore Ladies Tea. All female descendants of Sidney Meshack and Henrietta (Crowmeans) Moore enjoyed a wonderful time having a three-course tea.

Diana Wille of Nekossa, Wis. was hostess, assisted by Mary Johnson and Mollie Southard of Blooming Grove and April Carey of Taho, Calif.

The tea was held at Blooming Grove Church of Christ fellowship room.

Thirty-three ladies and daughters attended. Each one brought a beautiful tea cup the tea was served in.

Tea guests were encouraged to “dress up a bit” and wear a hat. Each one stood and told where she was from, something about herself, and where she got the tea cup. The cups were numbered when they came in, then at the end there was a “cup exchange.”

Diana told the history of three kinds of tea that were served, and about the delicious desserts and finger sandwiches, some with names after ancestors such as “Henrietta’s Apricot-Almond Scones,” and “Meshack’s Dilled Egg Salad Triangles.” After a delightful dessert menu including Benne Wafers, Lemon Madeleines, Decadent Chocolate Truffles and Blackberry Scripture Tea, Wille told a parable about a little tea cup in closing.

Guests at the tea hailed from Barry, Blooming Grove, Dallas, Duncanville, Grapevine, Grand Prairie, Kaufman, Keller, Irving, Rockwall, Seagoville, Bedford, Waxahachie, Taho, Calif., Denkin Springs and Shreveport, La., Overland Park, Kans., and Nekossa, Wis.

Whether you are aware of it or not, every single day of your life holds some sort of fulfilled accomplishment. We all have those days that we feel just drag on; the same monotonous routine day in and day out thinking our lives really aren’t serving a purpose to ourselves or those around us.

Another Daviss adventure is under our belts. Our travel and airport experience went fairly smoothly considering we were travelling with three boys, four suitcases, a stroller and two car seats. But we did make it through everything unscathed, and returned safely.
