Kerens — Fire fighting capabilities in Navarro County are one truck better, thanks to the taxpayers of Navarro County Emergency Services District No. 1.
Officials with the district and members of the Kerens Volunteer Fire Department dedicated and placed in service a new pumper/tanker at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, at the Kerens Volunteer Fire Department.
The 2009 Kenworth tanker carries 2,000 gallons of water and features a 1,250 gallon per minute pump. The truck will be stationed at and operated by the KVFD. The $206,000 truck was delivered this past December and KVFD members have been training and equipping this first truck to be purchased by tax dollars collected by the ESD.
The Emergency Services District is committed to a program of upgrading fire apparatus, equipment and training within the boundaries of the district.
“We are thrilled that in only our second year of existence we are able to begin supplying the citizens of our district with the equipment to better protect their homes and businesses,” said David Foreman, president of district. “Our firefighters deserve the best and we are thrilled to take this first step.”
A $100,000 brush truck equipped with a compressed air foam unit is scheduled to be delivered in April and will be housed and operated by the Powell Volunteer Fire Department.
“We appreciate the leadership and support of the ESD and the citizens of the district,” said Kaell Mullen, chief of the Kerens Volunteer Fire Department. “Without their tax dollars we would not be able to continue to expand our fire protection capabilities.”
