Two people were injured — one of them seriously — in a motorcycle crash on FM 309 near the intersection with State Highway 287 in southern Navarro County Saturday afternoon.
Donald Galloway, 53, of Kilgore, driver of the motorcycle, was taken by air ambulance to a Tyler hospital with what was described as “significant head injuries.” His female passenger, Martha Dudley, 52, of Marshall, was taken by ground ambulance to Navarro Regional Hospital with a possible broken arm, said DPS Trooper Casey Crocker, who is investigating the crash.
Crocker said the pair was southbound on FM 309 approaching Highway 287 around 12:30 p.m. when the crash occurred.
“They were traveling too fast for the curve is what it looked like, and realized there was a stop sign at the last minute,” Crocker said. The motorcycle ran off the road and through the intersection, coming to a rest on the side of the roadway.
Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets, Crocker said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Crocker added.
The investigation into the crash is continuing, Crocker said. It is uncertain if any charges will be filed in the incident, he said.
Saturday’s motorcycle accident comes just one week after a tragic crash on FM 709 that killed three motorcyclists and injured two others participating in a charity motorcycle ride when they were struck by a pickup truck driving on the wrong side of the road.
David Coley, Leslie McCluney, and her father, Terry Nelson, were killed in that crash. Troopers investigating the fatal crash served two search warrants this week, seizing prescription drugs and a substance believed to be marijuana from the truck involved in the crash, and blood samples from the truck’s driver, William Lindsey. Investigators say a “strong odor of marijuana” was evident in the truck following the crash. Lindsey was treated and released from Parkland Hospital following the crash. No charges have been filed in connection with the wreck.
