Sept. 11

A Patriots Day program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Freedom Flag Plaza at Bunert Park in Corsicana. Featured speaker will be Capt. Jon M. Basham, who has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The public is invited to attend to hear Capt. Basham and to honor our first responders and military heroes.



Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.



The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m.   The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.  For further information, please call (903) 872-5072.



When Are We Going Home Ministry and Rising Star Creative Ministry will meet at New Beginnings Fellowship in Blooming Grove at 6 p.m.



NARFE, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, will hold its monthly meeting at the Ennis Grand Buffet at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p. m. Sept. 11. The program will be Home Fire Safety, (Community awareness). The Warehouse Theatre’s Corsicana Children’s Company fall acting classes for grades third, fourth and fifth will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 11.  This class will meet on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. for a nine-week session. This class will develop imagination and discover new talents through fun and exciting performance activities. Members of this class will present their end of semester showcase for an invited audience. Tuition is $65 and includes a souvenir t-shirt. Sept. 12

Carter BloodCare will hold a blood drive at First Baptist Church Corsicana, 510 West Collin, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. inside the Welcome Center basement.

Kinsloe House and the Past Presidents Council will be responsible for an interesting program titled “Honoring Our Old Hyms” on at 12 noon at Kinsloe House.  Primary vocalist will be Virginia Martin with featured soprano vocalists: Debbie Bigler, Carolyn Price, and Beverly Russell. Reservations must be made by noon, Sept. 10th. Cancellations must also be made by that date and time. This is a program members don’t want to miss. Attendees are in for a real treat



September 13-16, 18, 20-22, 2012

The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will continue its 41st season with the opening of THE HALLELUJAH GIRLS by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.  The talented cast includes Brenda Ballew of Teague; Kelly Kovar and Darlene Pleiner both of Ennis; Joe E. “Joey” McClure of Blooming Grove; Debbie Hanks of Powell; Janet Martin,  Ron Motley, David Ross and Norma Russell all of Corsicana. The opening will be Thursday, Sept. 13 which includes the opening night reception immediately following the show. Other performances will be September 14-16, 18, 20-22. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee on Sept. 16 begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Warehouse Living Arts Center which is located at 119 West Sixth Ave. across from the post office. Sept. 13

The Young at Heart Club will resume meeting after its summer break from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Museum on Fordyce St. This is for anyone 55 and up. Come and enjoy fellowship, fun and friends. Refreshments will be served. The Young at Heart Club meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, at the museum.



VOICE will have a Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours at 5:32 to 7:02 p.m.  The new VOICE logo will be unveiled and there will be time for food, fellowship, and door prizes.  The Business After Hours will be at the VOICE Office at the Bank of America Building, 100 N Main St Suite 308 in Corsicana.  September 13 will also be a great time to donate to VOICE through Donor Bridge, every donation of $25 or above made 7 a.m. to Midnight will be matched by a percentage to be determined by the amount of donations received.  Those wishing to contribute can logo on to www.donorbridgetx.org and look up VOICE on September 13 between 7a.m. to Midnight. Chatfield Tupelo Neighborhood Crime Watch will meet to hear our local game wardens as they present the program on what to expect from a game warden. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Chatfield Community Center. Everyone is invited to attend. Following reports and a short business meeting, light refreshments will be served.

Taste of Home tickets are now available at the Corsicana Daily Sun. This special event will be held at the Corsicana High School auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. Food, fun and prizes begins at 1 p.m. with a variety of vendor booths and the cooking show begins at 4:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $35 each and includes a special meet and greet before the show with culinary specialist Jamie Dunn. Reserved seating tickets are $20 and general admission are $12. Over 800 were in attendance at our last Taste of Home show in the fall of 2009. This class will use improv, comedy, monologues and scene study to develop and refine stage skills including voice and movement.  This class will meet on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for a nine-week session.  Tuition is $70 and includes a souvenir T-shirt. At the end of the session the class will present a showcase for an invited audience. The theatre is located at 119 W 6th Ave. in downtown Corsicana. Sept. 14

The Corsicana High School Junior Class will hold “Around the World in 80 Bites” fundraiser for the Prom from 5 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the game against Forney. It will be held in the CHS Commons. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from any CHS Junior or from Misty Fletes, Junior Class sponsor.

Navarro County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11 :30 a.m. at Northwest Apartments Community Center for a luncheon. Sept. 15

The Corsicana Visitor's Center will hold a volunteer training session beginning at 1 p.m. The Corsicana Visitor Center is in need of volunteers to greet and help the public who come to the center for assistance. The Visitor Center has a large array of information on Corsicana and other areas in Texas for travelers and local residents. The Open House will offer informatoin about the volunteer opportunity available. Great for college students needing volunteer hours, retired individuals, stay at home moms and dads, anyone who desires to give back to their community. This is a free riding program for medically challenged, disabled and special needs children 0-21 and their immediate siblings. Lunch is included. Volunteers are available for front and side walking as well as a ramp for wheelchairs. Please RSVP for lunch to wawahn@gmail.com.



Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 9 a.m. at the Angel Room located at 1020 N. Bus. 45. We welcome all ages to come pack. We will update all present on our holiday packing for the troops. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center will hold its annual fundraiser breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at 1114 E. Sixth Ave. The cost for the breakfast is $5. Last year we were encouraged with the support received from loyal friends, many churches, and the community as a whole. Eureka Masonic Lodge will host its 100th anniversary at 12 p.m. on at Mildred High School cafeteria. This celebration is open to the public and we encourage you to attend.



Blooming Grove United Methodist Church will hold its Lord’s Acre beginning at 9 a.m. with a Country Store (baked goods, homemade items, etc.) At 11 a.m. take out lunches being with delivery in Blooming Grove (to call (903) 695-2334), then lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m.  to 12:30 p.m. Adults are $8 each, kids 10 and under $5. Gospel Jubilee at Martins Music Hall, 102 S. Beaton, will begin at 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m. The show will feature the Willing Hearts Trio, Hashel Colvin and Eugene Williams, Wayne Owen, Carolyn Cobb and the Heavenly Highways Band, comprised of Elias Lowe and Gary Poe. Admission is $10.



Sept. 23

Fundraiser for Brandi Snowden will begin at 1 p.m. at the American Legion. Brandi was killed in a terrible accident in June at the age of 31, leaving behind two daughters 13 and 7. Friends are holding this fundraiser to help pay her funeral expenses. There will be a live band, a live auction, dart tournament, horse shoe tournament, shuffle board tournament, and a pool tournament. Also will be barbecue plates for sale. That's the highest rate among U.S. cities with at least 50,000 people.

    It took less than 30 minutes for a devastating EF-5 tornado to make a shambles out of the community of Moore, Okla. on Monday afternoon.
    It took less than two days for Texas country musicians Scott Brown and Josh Ward to find themselves stopping in Corsicana on their way to Moore with three trailers full of relief supplies for the victims of the storm.
