The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will continue its 41st season with the opening of “The Hallelujah Girls” by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.  Evening performances begin at 7:30. The Sunday matinee on Sept. 16 begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Warehouse Living Arts Center which is located at 119 West 6th Avenue across from the post office.  For reserved seating and ticket info, please call the box office at (903) 872-5421.

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle is hosting its “Lunch Bunch” at Summer Palace from 11: 30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join.



Sept. 20-21

The Kerens Chamber of Commerce extends a special invitation to everyone to attend the Homecoming activities for Sept. 21 and 22. See you at the game Friday night at 7 p.m. as Kerens  Bobcats play Grand Saline and at the parade and all homecoming activities.

Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department will hold “Hooked on Fishing” at IOOF Park. For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Deparment at (903) 654-4874.



Gospel Jubilee at Martins Music Hall, 102 S. Beaton, will begin at 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m. The show will feature the Willing Hearts Trio, Hashel Colvin and Eugene Williams, Wayne Owen, Carolyn Cobb and the Heavenly Highways Band, comprised of Elias Lowe and Gary Poe. Admission is $10.



Sept. 23

Fundraiser for Brandi Snowden will begin at 1 p.m. at the American Legion. Brandi was killed in a terrible accident in June at the age of 31, leaving behind two daughters 13 and 7. Friends are holding this fundraiser to help pay her funeral expenses. There will be a live band, a live auction, dart tournament, horse shoe tournament, shuffle board tournament, and a pool tournament. Also will be barbecue plates for sale. Sept. 25

Jury duty for Judge H.M. Daveport Jr’s County Court, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, has been cancelled. Those called for service need not attend.



When Are We Going Home Ministry and Spirit Sent Music Ministry will meet at New Beginnings Fellowship in Blooming Grove at 6 p.m.



Healthy Woman is back at Navarro Regional Hospital's Cafe 22 for an evening with Dr. Rebecca Guinn, OB/GYN from  5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Dr. Guinn will be discussing methods of contraception and family planning, as well as other reasons for using contraception.  Even if you think you have no need for a contraceptive, hormones in the form of birth control can help control mood swings, migraines, heavy and/or unpredictable periods and severe pain. Sept. 29

VFW Post 3366 will have its Saturday night dance in the ballroom of the VFW Post from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight. Spur City Rounders will be playing all your favorite dance songs. Admission is free but donations will be accepted to help pay the cost of the band.



Oct. 1 - Oct. 26

The 32nd Annual Piecemakers’ Quilt Show will take place at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W. Sixth Ave. Admission is free. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. A quilt will be raffled off as part of the annual show. Oct. 2

The Blooming Grove Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Fordyce in Blooming Grove.  Guest speakers will be the Hollingsworth sisters — Odessa Smith, Bernice Prater and Mavis Lusk.  The will discuss their school years and happenings in Blooming Grove in the 1930's and 1940's.  All interested people are invited to attend.  For more information call (903) 695-2724 or (903) 673-2635.



Oak Valley Crime Watch will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Valley Community Center. If you bring a friend your name will go in to a drawing for door prize. The Blooming Grove Historical Society will have a garage sale in the building across the street from the museum.  Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

Oct. 6

Eureka United Methodist Church, 8644 S. Hwy 287, will hold its Lord’s Acre celebration Oct. 6. Barbecue dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal will consist of brisket, pinto beans,  potato salad, bread, pickles, onions and homemade pies with coffee or tea. Adult meals are $8, children age 3 and under are free. The country kitchen will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, 4 to 7 p.m., and the auction will be at 7:30 p.m. The drawing for the quilt will be held during the auction. These classese will be held on the second Tuesday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. The Diabetes Self-Management Comprehensive Program is an ongoing class for patients diagnosed with diabetes. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.



The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m.  The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. For further information, please call (903)872-5072.



Oct. 12-14

Pelham Community Homecoming will celebrate its 55th annual Oct. 12-14. Friday night, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. will be a worship service with Rev. Charles Kelly as the master of ceremonies at the Wesley United Methodist Church, and Rev. Earnest Sample Sr. of West as speaker. On Saturday, Oct. 13, from 2 to 6 p.m. will be Pelham “Fun and Frolic.” Family and friends will enjoy activities at the Pelham Community History Museum. Bring your lawn chairs, Museum will be open for tours. The celebration will culminate on Sunday with homecoming worship services at 10:45 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Rev. Elgin Taylor, President Emeritus of Christians in Action International of Dallas speaking. Dinner will be served following services at the Pelham Community Center.



Oct. 13

Taste of Home tickets are now available at the Corsicana Daily Sun. This special event will be held at the Corsicana High School auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. Food, fun and prizes begins at 1 p.m. with a variety of vendor booths and the cooking show begins at 4:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $35 each and includes a special meet and greet before the show with culinary specialist Jamie Dunn. Reserved seating tickets are $20 and general admission are $12. Over 800 were in attendance at our last Taste of Home show in the fall of 2009. Richland's First Semi-Annual Craft and Vendor Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richland Civic Center, 103 W. Main St.  Arts, crafts, crochet hats and items, digital postcards, VHS to DVD, health and wellness products, baked goods, bling, hairbows, jewelry, monogrammed bags, totes and purses, Velata fondue and Scentsy products. This is a free riding program for medically challenged, disabled and special needs children 0-21 and their immediate siblings. Lunch is included. Volunteers are available for front and side walking as well as a ramp for wheelchairs. Please RSVP for lunch to wawahn@gmail.com.

Boys and Girls Club of Navarro County will hold a 2012 Fall Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 1000 East G.W. Jackson Ave., Corsicana. Both companies will be given 50 percent abatements for 10 years, and both are proposing sizable investments and the creation of dozens of new jobs.

    The loss of $2,900 from the Kerens Volunteer Fire Department in May has led to the arrest of the group’s treasurer, Kaell Mullen.
    Mullen has been charged with theft of more than $1,500 and less than $20,000 by a public servant, a third-degree felony.

  • Workshops to be held to review restoration bids

    There are three contractor proposals to consider for the proposed restoration of the Navarro County Courthouse, but a decision on the next step in the project is still likely a few weeks away.
    Commissioners opened the proposals for the restoration project shortly after the 2 p.m. deadline Tuesday, along with proposals for asbestos abatement in conjunction with the project.
