Corsicana — The Navarro County Sheriff's Department confirmed Wednesday a high-speed chase through three counties in North Texas began as a result of an alert it issued regarding a custody dispute.
Law enforcement agencies in Ellis County began to chase the suspect vehicle, reportedly driven by Scarlett Gorden, 28, whose last known address was Barry.
The NCSO says a woman identifying herself as Angelina Armstrong said she had custody of two small children, ages 3 and 5, because Gorden, her daughter, had been jailed in Dallas.
Armstrong said Gorden took the two small children from her home and left.
NCSO then notified surrounding counties of the incident, and a patrolling Ellis County Sheriff's Department unit began the pursuit near Wilmer on Interstate 45.
The chase ensued through Dallas County and into Collin County, where Gorden's car finally stopped after being hit by "spike strips" thrown in front of the vehicle by officers in an attempt to flatten the fleeing vehicle's tires.
Gorden was taken into custody without incident, as witnessed on live television broadcasts from the Dallas area. The two children in the vehicle did not appear to be harmed.
The NCSO is continuing its investigation into the incident.
