Corsicana —
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II had fans descending on Corsicana in their hundreds Thursday to witness the eighth and final installment of the movie series.
Kids and adults dressed up as wand-wielding wizards and lined up excitedly beginning as early as 5 p.m. at Cinergy Cinema in anticipation of the 12:05 a.m. premiere showing of the movie.
More than 500 tickets were sold for the event, giving staff one of their busiest nights to date since the cinema opened in September last year.
Preparations at Cinergy began with a Carter Bloodcare blood-drive at 5 p.m. where the first 40 blood-donors were given free tickets. In total 22 people gave blood.
Barriers were also set up for line control as people of all ages packed into the cinema. Fans watching the 3-D screenings were given 3-D glasses to help enhance the effects.
“We have a lot of people dressed up which always makes it really fun,” said Ahna Manning, assistant manager at Cinergy.
“It has been hectic, very hectic,” added Ashley Webb, another employee. “Tonight we were only supposed to have two theaters and they opened up another one.”
The latest film once again pits the character Harry Potter, played by Daniel Radcliffe, against his arch-enemy, Lord Voldemort, played by Ralph Fiennes.
In a fast-moving, action-packed finale, Potter and his friends Hermione Granger, played by Emma Watson, and Ron Weasley, played by Rupert Grint, help fight the final battle between the good and evil forces of wizardry.
“I read it in fifth grade and I have kind of been insane about the series since then,” said Sarah Beard, 14, from Corsicana. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It is the last Harry Potter movie and it all ends here. I feel sad, but mostly excited just to see the movie.”
“As soon as it started to come out I was in third grade,” said Clayton Nickell, 17, from Fairfield. “I have been an on and off fan since. It’s kind of grown up with my childhood. It’s always been a constant thing in my life since. It’s kind of bitter-sweet knowing that the whole thing is ending.”
Manager at Cinergy, Laura Barber, said that three screens will be showing the movie throughout the next week and that tickets are not yet sold out.
