Corsicana —
The Navarro Council of the Arts and the Corsicana Art League held a two day “Paint Corsicana” event over the weekend, with a good turnout of artists putting their own “spin” on many scenic parts of the city.
Artists from Navarro and surrounding counties participated in a two day plain event on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8 and 9.
The competition started on Friday morning with a meeting at the Corsicana Visitor's Center and culminated on Saturday with a show and sale and reception at the Visitor's Center.
There were many artists participating in the event as they spread out over Corsicana and surrounding area to paint subjects that interested them.
The judge for the competition was Allison Chew, Curator of the Pearce Western Art Museum.
Artists were seen in several parts of the city over the weekend, with mild weather allowing for ideal outdoor painting opportunities.
The winning artists were, first place — Tina Bohlman of Ennis; second place — Margie Taylor of Corsicana; third place — Brenda Knight Styren of Tyler. Honorable mention was awarded to Phyllis Palanick and Bobbie Ross, both of Corsicana.

Early voting
Early voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays Monday thru Friday May 14 through May 18, and May 21 through May 25, 2012, in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, 300 W. Third Ave., Corsicana.

On Saturday, a large group of women gathered at the IOOF Special Event Center, and they ranged in age from late 20s to mid-40s. Their common denominator?
All had played softball under the coaching and tutelage of Don Woodcock at a point in their lives. -
Early voting enters second week
As of Monday afternoon, 1,452 people had cast ballots in the county, state and national primary elections going on now in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, according to Elections Administrator Danda Parker.
Early voting hours are 8 to 5 p.m. for the rest of the week, ending at 5 p.m. Friday. Election day is May 29. -

Organizers of the Corsicana/Navarro County Clean Up Day scheduled for June 2 have advised the Daily Sun of new hours for the event.
The countywide Clean Up Day is being held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day, not until 2 p.m. as previously announced.
