Thanks to the popularity of the Taylorosa Trade Days, which are no longer being held at the Taylorosa, a new trade show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the VFW, 4609 W. State Highway 31. The plan is for this new Trade Days to be held the third Saturday of each month.
A collaborative effort of Robin Ratliff and Tammie McWhorter, both seasoned Taylorosa vendors, VFW Trade Days offers booth rental for $25 for single with one table, and $45 for double with two tables. For an extra $10, you can also have electricity in your booth.
So far, vendors committed to attending the inaugural trade show include Tastefully Simple, Tupperware, Mary Kay, Scentsy, Velata, Paparazzi Jewelry, as well as crafters who make everything from date bread (Sweet M’s Sweet Treats), to pickled beets and homemade salsa, to knitted kitchen towels and accessories, to jewelry, crosses, tutus and hairbows.
“The one thing we’d like to do is help promote home-based businesses, and encourage our home crafters,” Robin Ratliff said. “That’s why our booth spaces are inexpensive. I’m a home-based crafter, I make wooden crosses and other wooden items. If booth space rent is outrageous, you may not make enough money to cover your expenses. We want to encourage people just starting out with home-based crafting, and help them make contacts and expand their network.”
There is a VFW Trade Days page on Facebook with continually updated information.
“I’ve been doing craft shows for a couple of years now, some of them are very competitive,” Ratliff said. “We want this to be a monthly event, and we are grateful to the VFW for allowing us to do this. We are looking forward to spring and summer when we can open up into the outdoors with booths, too.”
The VFW will have concessions during Trade Days, with hot dogs, nachos, frito pie and coffee, tea and soft drinks available.
“I think it will be a good thing for the VFW if we can make it a go,” said Tammy French, VFW manager. “They don’t use the big room all that much, and I think this use for it will be great.”
Vendors may set up from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday. The show will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are looking forward to it,” Ratliff said. “Everybody was geared up to do the next Taylorosa show, and found out at the end of the December event that we wouldn’t be doing anymore there. So, we are pleased to have a place to continue these shows. Many of these vendors are the same ones who showed at the Taylorosa.”

Over 50 killed in OKC suburb tornado
MOORE, Okla. — A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. CISD Trustees table architect proposal, hear bond feedback
An outpouring of support from CISD teachers, and some advice for the next bond proposal from a local voter took up the public forum portion of Monday’s Corsicana Independent School District Board of Trustees meeting.
District voters turned down a proposed $54 million bond package in the May 11 school and municipal elections. The bond would have paid for a new campus, security and building upgrades, new technology, baseball field improvements, and a new school administration building. -
Navarro County Relay for Life raises funds and awareness
Once again, teams from all over Navarro County gathered Friday evening at The Cook Center parking lot after months of fundraising events to see the culmination of their efforts toward cancer research.
The goal?
To raise enough money one day for research that a cure is found to end cancer. -
Citizen’s Police Academy on target for graduation
Last week, the 18 members of the Citizens Police Academy came together to shoot guns.
In a long caravan, they headed out to the police shooting range near the landfill where they were taught about the department’s rifles, pepper guns, and handguns. They were invited to fire the pepper gun, although it only contained harmless powder pellets on that day, and a handgun, both under the watchful eyes of instructors Officer Sean Eggleston and Asst. Chief Ronnie McGaha. -
‘Make-A-Wish’ event raises funds for trip
Thursday’s Make-A-Wish Foundation event at La Pradera raised enough money to send Coy Bostian and his family to Disney World, according to Heba Shafik, wish-granter with the local chapter.
