Corsicana —
A 43-year-old Wilmer man was tased and arrested around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning after he shoplifted some items from the Walmart then led police on a slow-speed chase through town before taking off on foot.
The adventure began at 2:15 a.m. when a Walmart employee reported the man had stolen more than $50 in items. A patrol officer spotted the man in his car driving down Seventh Avenue at 31st Street and began chasing him.
“They terminated the pursuit becuase it wasn’t a felony, but they kept a visual on him from a distance, and after he ran several stopsigns, he was stopped in the 1000 block of East Eighth Avenue,” said Police Chief Randy Bratton.
The man took off on foot then, and ran through several yards before an officer got close enough to zap him with a taser. The chase ended there and the man was arrested.
He was charged with evading arrest, and theft between $50 and $500. As of Monday afternoon, he remained in the Navarro County Jail.
