Nov. 27 and 28

The Navarro Regional Hospital Auxiliary will hold two fund-raisers — a uniform sale and monograming in the Hospital classrooms, and a gold and silver buy-back in the hospital dining room. All proceeds from these fund-raisers will go to benefit the hospital auxiliary scholarship fund for Navarro College students going into a medical field.



Nov. 28, 29, 30, Dec 1, 2

Charles Dickens' classic, “A Christmas Carol” will be presented by the Warehouse Living Arts Center. The large cast of adults of all ages, teens and children is led by Alan Barnes as "Scrooge" and directed by C. David Hill. Performances will start at 7 p.m. on November 28, 29, 30; and at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 and 2. Tickets are now on sale at the theatare box office. Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $7 for students/seniors 65 and older, and $6 for children 12 and younger. There is a special discount rate for season ticket holders. Sixth Ave. in downtown Corsicana across from the post office.



Nov. 30

Sugar Rush for a Cure, a Navarro County Relay for Life team, will hold a lunch time special from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Olé Foods selling chopped beef sandwiches, chips and drink for $5. The traditional Downtown Open House and Lighting Celebration hosted by the Main Street and Parks & Recreation departments will be held at dark, featuring extended hours at many businesses and the annual lighting of the downtown Christmas lights for all to enjoy.



Dec. 1

The Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade will be kicked off at 6 p.m. Line up will begin at 5 p.m. at the old K-mart parking lot on N. 13th St. For information or to sign up, contact Dennis Thornberg at (903) 872-2133. There is no entry fee. Following the parade, the lighting of Community Park is scheduled to take place on Oaklawn Drive.



Navarro County Toy Run will leave the VFW, 4609 W. Hwy 31 at 11 a.m. for a scenic country ride that ends up back at the VFW. Cars, bikes and clubs all welcome! Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 10 a.m. at United Christian Fellowship Hall located across from the flagpole at Navarro College on W. Hwy 31. All ages are welcome to come pack. Friday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. we will be at this location receiving donations and setting up the lines for packing. Anyone wishing to help would be greatly appreciated and very welcome! The House of Refuge will sell raffle tickets for the homemade quilts to give away at Bealls in College Park Mall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All proceeds from the raffle ticket sales will go toward operation of the House of Refuge.



Authors of “Out of Our Minds” by the North Texas Professional Writers Association will sign copies of their book from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Book Rack, 2304 W. Park Row in Pantego (near Bedford). The signing at Hasting’s Books in Waxahachie has been delayed until spring.



Dec. 2

Kerens Garden Club will present its Tour of Homes and Winter Wonderland from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10. Three homes on the tour are the home of Judy and Norton Conner, Cindy Scott, and Dora and Miguel Palafox. The tour ends at New Garden Park in Kerens, where refreshments will be served. Dec. 3

The City Of Blooming Grove will hold its Monthly City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce, Blooming Grove.

 

Dec. 4

The Blooming Grove Historical Society will have a covered dish dinner at 7 p.m. in the museum at 201 S. Fordyce in Blooming Grove. All interested people are invited to attend. For more information call 903-695-2724 or 903-973-2635.



Dec. 5

American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. at the Legion, 632 N. Beaton. Come join our  Post 22. This meeting is held the first Wednesday of the month.



Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Eureka Methodist Church. Final plans will be made for the Christmas Project as well as future programs. Bring your favorite Christmas snacks, dips, chips, candies etc. and enjoy the fellowship with your friends and neighbors in celebrating the real “reason for the season!”



The Board of Directors of Kinsloe House invites members to its Christmas Tea from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Kinsloe House. The house will be decorated for the holidays and there will be food, music and fun for all. This is an annual tradition at Kinsloe House. There will also be a silent auction with many beautiful and interesting items for all to bid on. Members, be sure to put this on your calendar and come visit, feast on good food, and listen to Christmas music.



Dec. 6

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. The speaker will be Navarro County Sheriff Les Cotten. Everone is welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.



Dec. 8

Shakers and Scrapers Car Club will hold its annual toy drive starting at 3 p.m. Please bring one or more unwrapped toy along with your classic car, truck, motorcycle. Admire each other’s cars and make sure those less fortunate have a wonderful Christmas. All toys will be donated to The Salvation  Army. Holiday Tour of Homes to benefit the Blooming Grove Historical Society will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the homes of David and M’lis Long, Chad Briggs, Tim Nicholson, Sherry Smith, and Jean Hinkle. Dec. 10

Woodmen of the World Lodge 5's Christmas meeting will be at the Lone Star Room of the Kenneth Walker Dining Hall at Navarro College at 6 p.m. You must RSVP for this catered meal, please call Trudy at 903-874-7050 to give a head count by Dec. 4.



Dec. 11

Navarro Regional Hospital will hold a Diabetes Prevention Workshop once monthly for people with pre-diabetes or at risk for diabetes. These classes will be held on the second Tuesday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. The Diabetes Self-Management Comprehensive Program is an ongoing class for patients diagnosed with diabetes. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb, 28, 1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

    

National Active/Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1191 will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grand Buffet in Ennis. Members and guests are welcome. Dist. 3 representative Bernie Owens will install chapter officers and provide related comments. Bring canned goods for distribution to “Helping Hands” in Ennis. The Flower Committee at Kinsloe House will present their contribution program called "Wrap It Up.” It's time to make your reservation to join us for a fun time. Mark your calendar soon as no reservation can be made after noon on Monday, Dec. 10.

The house is all dressed up for the holidays and we hope you will enjoy a joyous occasion. Dress is Christmas casual!

Martin Luther King Jr. Center presents an Arts and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature jewelry, children’s storybooks, hats, purses, scarves, decorative T-shirts, clothing, canned goods, and much more. Dec. 17

The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (1 blk W of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by senior citizens and veterans.

Mary Peterson Child Care Center will hold a concert and reception at 7:30 p.m. at The Cook Center. The purpose of the concert is to raise funds for a new facility to be constructed for Mary Peterson Child Care Center. This awareness event is themed “Bridge to the Future — Mary Peterson Child Care Center.”
