Santa, fireworks kick off Christmas

Corsicana — A reminder - the Festival of Lights Christmas Parade starts at 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Corsicana, followed by the lighting of the lights at Community Park.

It was a pretty way to usher in the Christmas season, as downtown merchants kept their doors open late and the Main Street and Parks Departments hosted a lighting ceremony Friday at the corner of Beaton and Collin streets.

The event featured free street tacos, tamales and Dr Peppers, along with carols by the Corsicana High School choirs, followed up by a pretty fireworks show.

Certainly part of the enjoyment for children was the presence of Santa Claus, who listened to each child’s wishes for Christmas.

Liberty Schultz and her sister Lyric knew what they wanted — stuffed animals and a clock and baby doll, respectively.

“I wanted to let them see the lights and Santa and hear some music,” said father Sean Schultz.

Downtown will also be center stage during the annual Festival of Lights parade, which starts at 6 p.m. Saturday. The parade will start on 13th Street and wind its way through downtown. Immediately following the parade will be a lighting ceremony at Community Park, around 7:30 p.m., according to organizers.
