DPS, NCSO nab stolen Coca-Cola truck

Corsicana — A Dallas man was arrested Tuesday after the stolen 18-wheel tractor he was driving through Navarro County came to a dead end on the I-45 south service road just north of Richland.

Sheriff’s deputies and Department of Public Safety troopers caught up with the stolen cab just south of Corsicana, and began chasing the Coca-Cola truck south on Interstate 45, reaching speeds of about 70 miles an hour, said DPS Trooper Chris Williamson.

Officers were alerted to the stolen truck — reportedly taken from the Lancaster area — shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Officials with the soft drink distributor were able to keep authorities updated on the truck’s location by GPS tracking, Williamson said.

“A sheriff’s unit tried to ‘spike’ the truck, but it got around the spikes and onto the service road,” Williamson said. The truck left the Interstate near the 221 mile marker.

Another sheriff’s unit was at the next on-ramp to the Interstate blocking access to the highway, and the truck had to continue south on the service road.

“He came up to a dead end and gave up without a fight,” Williamson said. “He came out with his hands up and laid on the ground.”

Williamson said the suspect is believed to have additional warrants out of the Dallas area they were working to confirm Tuesday.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released, pending arraignment.
