As the final weeks of summer vacation wind down, school districts throughout Navarro County are making final personnel moves to be ready for the first day of school — Aug. 27 for most in the county.
The Corsicana Independent School District made three appointments Monday, including naming a new principal for Bowie Elementary School. Amy Callarman Gibbs will take over the post at Bowie. She most recently served as principal at Dawson High School since 2008.
Also appointed Monday to new posts in the CISD were Tracey Jordan and Elmer Avellaneda. Jordan was announced as new Bowie Elementary Assistant Principal. Jordan comes to Bowie from Drane Intermediate School where she was a teacher. Avellaneda was named a new assistant principal at Corsicana High School. He previously has served as the Special Education Department Chair at CHS.
Frost schools will have some new faces in new positions this fall when the doors reopen for the year.
High School Principal Gordon Lockett has left to go to New Caney ISD, so Becky Melton, the elementary principal has stepped up to become principal of the entire pre-K through 12th grade school, according to Superintendent Jim Revill.
Paul Hargadine, the girls basketball coach, has been named the assistant principal of the schools.
The district had three long-time teachers leave, and those were replaced, saving the district some money as the senior teachers were on a higher pay scale.
“For us, it was a massive turnover, but I knew about them long ago, back in the winter, so we had them all filled before school was out,” he said.
