Corsicana —
The Corsicana City Council voted Tuesday during regular session to approve a redistricting map that moves three parcels into different precincts.
The new map shifts a stretch of land along north Business 45 out of Precinct 1 into Precinct 2; a smaller area around Ritter out of Precinct 4 into Precinct 1; and an L-shaped area around City Hall bounded by North 12th on one leg out of Precinct 1 into Precinct 2.
It was one of the simplest choices offered to the citizen’s advisory group. The map won’t become official until it is also approved by the U.S. Department of Justice, which looks at redistricting maps in the southern United States to determine whether or not they respect fairness for all voters.
Redistricting is required every 10 years following the U.S. census to make sure that precincts are divided fairly by population, and that representation is even.
In other business, the council took the following actions:
• Approved a specific use permit for Red’s Lube and Tune, an auto service station at 1380 N. Beaton St., at the intersection of North 13th, North Beaton and Northwood.
• Approved declaring nine older vehicles as surplus that will be sold in an on-line auction. One of the vehicles, a 2000 Crown Victoria will be given to the Parks Department to be placed at Community Park next to the city’s old fire truck for children to play in and around.
• Awarded the city’s contract for banking services to JP Morgan Chase Bank. The city gave weight to the bank that could comply most fully with the city’s investment and collateralization policy.
• During public forum, Billy Joe Kelly asked that the city come mow the two lots at the intersection of East Collin and Third, where the grass has gotten very high.

Early voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays Monday thru Friday May 14 through May 18, and May 21 through May 25, 2012, in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, 300 W. Third Ave., Corsicana.

Early voting enters second week
As of Monday afternoon, 1,452 people had cast ballots in the county, state and national primary elections going on now in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, according to Elections Administrator Danda Parker.
Early voting hours are 8 to 5 p.m. for the rest of the week, ending at 5 p.m. Friday. Election day is May 29. -
