• A woman rolled her car in the 400 block of Oaklawn because she was distracted by some loose helium balloons in the car on Tuesday.
• Someone stole several chairs from the K&S Bowling Center Wednesday in the 2800 block of West Seventh Ave.
• A woman reported that several people had assaulted her Thursday in the 1400 block of West Park Ave.
• A storage building was burglarized Thursday in the 1300 block of MLK Blvd.
Navarro County Sheriff’s Office
• A beige horse was reported missing Sunday from a Powell address.
• A black paintball gun was stolen from a vehicle Thursday while it was parked at Mildred High School.
• A series of electronic items were stolen Thursday from a building on South U.S. Highway 287 near Eureka. Among the things taken were four LCD monitors, cables and cords, LCD projectors, microphones, tripod screens, speakers, LED lights, and a mixing board.
• An air compressor, a generator and an air hose were taken Thursday from a home on Northwest County Road 0105 near Corsicana.
• Four aluminum center-line wheels, two radiators and some dumb bells were taken Wednesday from an address on FM 1603 near Chatfield.

Local economy shows signs of growth
Texas’ economy is picking up, and the signs are all around, even in Navarro County.
Texas’ most recent unemployment figures, from April, had the state at 6.4 percent unemployed, this is compared with the national average of 7.6 percent. In addition, state sales tax receipts for May 2013 were nearly 8 percent higher than in May 2012. Sales tax collections have increased for 38 consecutive months, boosted by strong business spending in the oil/natural gas and manufacturing sectors, and to some extent, retail sales, according to the Texas Comptroller’s office. -

City grants tax abatements
The Corsicana City Council granted tax abatements to Guardian Industries and the proposed water park when the group met in regular session Tuesday. Both companies will be given 50 percent abatements for 10 years, and both are proposing sizable investments and the creation of dozens of new jobs.

Former Kerens VFD treasurer arrested for theft
The loss of $2,900 from the Kerens Volunteer Fire Department in May has led to the arrest of the group’s treasurer, Kaell Mullen.
