The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will present “The Boys Next Door” beginning Thursday, July 12. The opening night includes an after-the-show reception immediately following the performance. An Off-Broadway success, this very funny and equally touching play focuses on the lives of four mentally-challenged men who live together in a group home. Filled with humor, the play is also marked by the compassion and understanding with which it peers into the lives of its handicapped protagonists. Tom Griffin’s play is as relevant today as it was when it was written in 1986. Other performances will be July 13-15, 17, 19-21. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee on July 15 begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Warehouse Living Arts Center which is located at 119 West 6th Avenue across from the post office. Gospel Jubilee will be held at Martins Music Hall, 102 S. Beaton at 7 p.m. Gospel Jubilee is the fourth Saturday night of each month. Doors open at 6 p.m., and admission is $10 per person. Special guest for this performance is the Eternal River Band, as well as Shelly Buckley, Danielle Pillans, and Carolyn Cobb. They are joined by the Heavenly Highways Band, Elias Lowe, Gary Poe and Ricky Woodall.
The VFW Post 3366 will have a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Ballroom. The Spur City Rounders will be providing your favorite country sounds. Band plays from 8 to 12 and admission is free. Donations are always appreciated to help pay the band. Remember, there is a dance on the last Saturday of each month. All are welcome.

Lifetime Memories: Special Prom supplies smiles, excitement for all
Bright smiles and nervous excitement are standard at every prom, but there were more than a few reasons Friday’s “Special Prom” at Corsicana High School was extra special.
For three hours, the area that usually serves as the Calico dance rehearsal studio was transformed into a black and red masquerade-themed wonderland for the school’s first prom for about 40 of its special education students. -

VOICE luncheon, style show brings fashions and funnies
When it comes to red carpet fashion, comedienne Joan Rivers is one of the more well-known, self-appointed authorities, and she had plenty to say during Thursday’s 9th Annual VOICE, Inc., Spring Luncheon and Style Show.
More than 100 people attended the annual fundraising event at the Cook Center, which featured local models showing off fashions from area retailers while the show’s emcee, Ellie Weingardt, delivered witty commentary as a Rivers impersonator. -
Grand Jury: Houston area rapper indicted locally on drug charges
A multi-platinum selling rap artist from Houston was indicted Thursday by the Navarro County Grand Jury during its May panel. Wesley Eric Weston, known professionally as “Lil’ Flip,” was indicted on charges of possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams. Weston and another man, Dematrius Delane Richardson, were arrested by DPS troopers Oct. 18, 2012
