Corsicana —
Workers pulling up the bricks on Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue won’t be replacing those again, ever.
Instead, the city will repair the foundation that has made the street into a rumbling roller coaster for cars and trucks for the last 30 years, and smooth it out with an asphalt top.
The project is part of a larger plan by the City of Corsicana to narrow down the number of brick streets in the city to just those within the historic downtown area.
The Main Street bricks will be stockpiled over at the city’s service center on 12th Street, and used for maintenance on the brick streets that will be allowed to remain.
“That’s one of the areas we identified about a year ago when we looked at brick street areas we were going to reclaim,” said Elizabeth Borstad, city engineer. “The city decided to concentrate on downtown brick streets. The others, as they need to be replaced, will be replaced with asphalt or concrete.”
The downtown historic area is roughly defined as that area bounded by Second Avenue on the north, the railroad on the east, Seventh Avenue on the south, and 12th Street on the west.

Grand Jury: Houston area rapper indicted locally on drug charges
A multi-platinum selling rap artist from Houston was indicted Thursday by the Navarro County Grand Jury during its May panel. Wesley Eric Weston, known professionally as “Lil’ Flip,” was indicted on charges of possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams.
