The Corsicana Art League will hold an exhibit at the Warehouse Living Arts Theatre Gallery.



Through Feb. 23

The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will open its 42nd season with “The Marvelous Wonderettes” by Roger Bean. This must-take trip down memory lane is filled with favorite popular hits for the 50's and 60's.  The talented cast are Samantha Clayborn, Cristin Denbow, Emily Hines and Angel Sims. Additional performances will be Feb. 16, 19, 21-23. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee on Feb. 17 begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Warehouse Living Arts Center which is located at 119 West Sixth Ave. across from the post office. This is the first show of the 2013 Season Ticket series. Tickets will also be available at the door as long as seats are available. Feb. 16

The Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department will hold its Third Annual “Prom” Hillbilly Ball at Star Hall at 7 p.m. There will be dinner, dancing, an auction and “Prom” pictures. There will be a contest for the best dressed table, King and Queen, and more. Tables of eight are $100, or $12.50 per person. VFW Trade Days will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4609 W. State Highway 31. Vendors from near and far will be available to sell wares ranging from homemade jewelry and preserves to Scentsy products, Avon and more. Concessions available. Part of the money raised goes to help Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3366. Come out and support local craftsmen and vendors.



Dawson Friends of Youth will hold a Bean and Cornbread Supper and Auction starting at 6 p.m. at the Dawson High School cafeteria.  Proceeds will benefit the youth who participate in Navarro County Youth Expo. Cost of the meal is on a donation basis. Come out and show support for Dawson youth!



Feb. 17

For The Love of Art Show and Sale presented by the Star Harbor Watercolor Society will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. in Star Harbor City Hall, Location 99 Sunset Blvd., Star Harbor, Northwest of Malakoff. The Kinsloe House Resolutions Committee, headed by Sheren Haedge, with committee members Marsha Banks, Marsha Cameron, Edna Richardson, Ruth Scott, and Christine Williams will have a delightful program done by the Navarro College Collegiate Singers, headed by Dr. Rodney Haedge with Christina Mims as accompanist. This singing group, chosen by audition, is composed of about 20 members. These students have been preparing a program of varied musical selections that they will perform. Members are in for a treat. Kerens Pioneer and Kerens Garden Club invite the public to join them for a joint meeting and “Guest Day” at 3:30 p.m. at Kerens First Baptist Church. The program “I Take Pen in Hand” is a collection of letters from Colonial through modern times, and should appeal to everyone.



Feb. 22

Mary Peterson Child Care Center, 1103 East Collin, will host a “Soul Food Luncheon” from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Take out only. On the menu will be barbecue sausage links, barbecue chicken, or pork neckbones; yams, greens, pinto beans, potato salad or cherry salad; and peach cobbler or banana pudding. Donations for meals are $10. Money raised will go to help Mary Peterson Child Care Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit agency, with operations. Feb. 23

Blooming Grove Friends of Youth Chili and Beans & Cornbread Fundraiser will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 5:30 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Elementary Cafeteria.  Tickets are $6 each.  A live auction will begin at 6:30 p.m.  Proceeds from fundraiser goes to help support the students who participate in the Navarro County Youth Expo.



VFW Post 3366 will host its regular monthly dance in the post ballroom. Classic Country will be playing all your favorite dance songs! Dance starts at 8 p.m. and the band plays till midnight! There is no cover charge but donations will be accepted at the door to help pay the band.

The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (one block West of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the Party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by Senior Citizens and Veterans.

American Cancer Society will hold its Bark For Life and Car Show at Bunert Park, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee for autos, with eight trophies to be given away.

The Navarro Council of the Arts present The National Tour of The Rainbow Fish for all kindergarten through second graders in Navarro County at The Palace Theatre. There will be giveaways, information on various health-related issues, blood pressure checks, Walk Across Texas signup, Spring Training signup, Carter Bloodcare, a bounce house for the kids and more. The Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. The speaker will be Corsicana Police Chief Randy S. Bratton. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.



March 9

Collins Middle School Eighth Grade Washington D.C. Trip will hold a Vendor Event Fundraiser at the Collins Middle School cafeteria from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ( trip isJune 11-14th). There are 25 vendors committed thus far, and there will be a bake sale and Barbecue plate lunches as well. Proceeds from sales will go toward the cost of the trip.  



Lonestar Cowboy Church, 4495 W. Hwy 22, will hold a Play Day. Books open at 10 a.m., Play Day will start at 11 a.m. All ages are welcome. For more information, contact Scott Reed at (903) 804-7377.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Navarro College Multimedia Department presents Media Fest 2013, to be held at 10 a.m. at the Cook Center Planetarium at Navarro College. This is a great opportunity to see the best work produced by our multimedia students during the last year. There will be photography, drawings, paintings, 3-D, music, and video on display on the planetarium ceiling. Everyone is welcome. Mystery Art in Tuckertown is a silent auction and reception featuring local artists. This fundraiser supports the efforts of both the Navarro Council of the Arts and VOICE. “Pillars of our Past, Celebrating the people, places, and events in Navarro County History”  will be the theme this year. Mystery Art in Tuckertown will feature 8 x 10 art work with silent bids starting at $35. The art will be on display at the Warehouse Living Arts Center April 17-26. There will be a reception with food and drinks which will feature the artwork from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 25 at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W.  Sixth Ave. Artist’s names will be revealed at the end of the auction. The Inaugural Oil Baron’s Ball will benefit Derrick Days and VOICE. The black tie event will feature fine food, entertainment and dancing.
