CHS Football: Tigers football coach Castles headed to Henderson

Multiple sources confirm Castles will be named coach on Wednesday

Corsicana — Corsicana Tigers football coach Phil Castles will be named the new head coach at Class 3A Henderson High School on Wednesday, multiple sources confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Castles ends a four-year run at Corsicana that included four playoff appearances and a state-semifinal season in 2011, the Tigers’ deepest run in the postseason since 1997.

Corsicana was 30-19 under Castles and ended a drought that saw the Tigers miss the playoffs in 2007 and ‘08.

Corsicana hadn’t won a playoff game since 2005 before the Tigers beat West Mesquite in the 2009 Class 4A Region II bi-district playoffs in DeSoto. The Tigers lost to Marshall the next week in an area round game in Tyler.

The Tigers had a memorable season in 2011, winning four playoffs games before falling to eventual state champion Aledo in the state semifinals at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

Stacey Sullivan, HISD Dir. of Human Resources/Communications told CBS 19 that “no official decision has been made for who the new Head Football Coach will be.”

She also told Ch. 19 that in a day or two a statement will be released from Henderson ISD regarding the football coach situation.

CISD Superintendent Dr. Diane Frost would not comment for the record Tuesday.

Castles will replace Dickey Meeks, who left Henderson for the Class 3A Pittsburg job.
