The Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue organization brought two long-bed trailers to Navarro County Friday and assisted with the rescue of 41 donkeys from here. The animals were either products of animal cruelty cases or were strays, Navarro County sheriff’s officials said.
The team of Mark Meyers, his wife Amy Meyers and Burt Parmer made the trek from Miles, just outside of San Angelo, to a county ranch near Angus to load the donkeys, most of which appear to be healthy.
It was the sixth county Peaceful Valley had rescued donkeys from this week, Mark said. The organization is 12 years old, Amy said, and rehabilitates as many donkeys as possible before finding them new ranches to join.
Deputies Charles Jones and Jim Carroll, along with several trusties, helped with the loading process, which was not always an easy task.
