Kinsloe House hosts its program luncheon which will feature Sgt. Ken Authier of the Texas Highway Patrol who will be giving the program “R U Payin’ Attention?” He will be making those in attendance more aware of the rules of the road — signs, speed limits, etc. Donna Ingham is chairman of the Furnishings Committee which sponsors the program. Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Eureka United Methodist Church. Primary elections are currently scheduled for April 4, and all candidates running for a political office in Precinct 2, Precinct 3 and countywide are invited to attend this meeting. Each will be given a few minutes to speak to the voters. The public is urged to attend, and refreshments will be served.

American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12 noon to  5:30 p.m. Those in need of blood often include accident or trauma victims, premature babies, cancer patients, as well as people undergoing surgeries. Those in need can be your friend, your sibling, your classmate, your teacher or just about anyone else in your life. To make an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org. All blood types are needed to ensure the Red Cross maintains an adequate blood supply. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

Mary Peterson’s Child Care Center will host a Soul Food Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Located at 1103 E. Collin, there will be to go plates available for $10 donation. Richland Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chili supper starting at 5 p.m. at the Fire Station/Civic Center on Main Street in Richland. The supper will be free of charge, donations will be accepted. Feb. 5

Mike Fossum, NASA astronaut and husband of the former Melanie London, will speak at 1 p.m. in the Great Hall of First United Methodist Church. Fossum will speak about his recent six-month stay aboard the International Space Station, where he served first as Flight Engineer and then as Commander. Prior to this flight, Mike had logged more than 636 hours in space, including more than 42 hours in six EVAs (spacewalks), as a mission specialist aboard space shuttle Discovery on STS-121 (July 4-17, 2006) and STS-124 (May 31-June 14, 2008). Mike is a retired Colonel from the USAF Reserves.

A “Reagan Day Dinner” will be held by the Republican Party of Navarro County at 6 p.m. at Napoli’s Pizza and Restaurant, 111 E. Collin Ave. Colton Buckley, Coryell County Young Republicans Chairman and Central Texas TEA Party Young Patriots Coordinator will be the keynote speaker. It will be an chance to meet the Republican Primary Election candidates from Navarro County and multi-county District races. Each will have an opportunity to address the gathering. Navarro Regional Hospital Senior Circle will host the second in a three part series on Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s. The presentation will be 5 to 7 p.m. at the Navarro Regional Hospital Dining Room, with Kimberly Knight of the Greater Dallas Alzheimer’s Organization as the speaker. What are the differences between Alzheimer’s, other dementias and normal memory loss due to aging? This is a good overview for those who have concerns about memory loss or have had a diagnosis of dementia, as well as for those who want information about Alzheimer’s disease. Learn about the Alzheimer’s disease process, and the programs offered by the Greater Dallas Chapter for both the person with Alzheimer’s and the caregiver.

Navarro Regional Hospital Senior Circle will hold the last in a three part series about Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The program will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Navarro Regional Hospital Dining Room, and Kimberly Knight of the Greater Dallas Alzheimer’s Organization will be the speaker. Know the 10 signs:  Early Detection Matters, will be the topic of this program. Learn the warning signs that may be symptoms of Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.  Understand the importance of visiting your doctor early to rule out treatable conditions that may be the cause of these symptoms.  Early diagnosis helps with planning, treatment, the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and access to support from the Alzheimer's Association.
