Corsicana — The Navarro County Commissioners Court approved buying a new backhoe for Precinct 3, and approved a bid price list change for road materials when the group met in regular session Monday morning.
The backhoe will cost under $40,000, and is being bought with money saved from a grader purchase. The precinct bought a used grader, saving the amount needed for the backhoe. The backhoe is also used but it has an extendable arm that can dig ditches and clean out creek bottoms, explained Precinct 3 Commissioner Faith Holt.
Initially, she had asked the commissioners to approve any of the top three choices, but was reminded by Auditor Kathy Holloway that she had to declare one, so she chose a Caterpillar backhoe.
The commissioners also approved a lower rate sheet from Lone Star, which provides gravel and other materials for the commissioners and their road crews. The lower rates were negotiated by Commissioner James Olsen, said County Judge H.M. Davenport.
In other business, the commissioners took the following actions:
• Approved paying the bills submitted by the auditor.
• Approved a standing contract for legal services with Terry Jacobson.
• Discussed the e-recycling program, tentatively scheduled for Feb. 20.
