Olé Foods Relay for Life team will serve lunch in the Olé parking lot, today only, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For $5 get a bowl of Taco Soup with chips, cheese and sour cream, or for $7 get a Baked potato with either beef or chicken fajita meat, or bacon bits, cheese, chives, and sour cream. Drinks are included with both. Plus choose from the Sugar Rush Sweet Treats while supplies last! Come out and support Relay for Life!
The Navarro County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11 a.m. at Northwest Apartments Community Center, 1360 Northwest Ave. A catered luncheon will be served and reservations are required. Harmony Christian Ministries at 1816 W. Second Ave. will host a Cancer benefit for Lynn Neiman and his wife, Gidget. Navarro County Relay for Life will begin with a Survivor/Caregiver dinner at The Cook Center at Navarro College. Kinsloe House will host a luncheon featuring Gary Farley from the Corsicana Municipal Airport. He has done extensive World War II historical research and has collected many artifacts for the museum located at the airport. The Cook Education Center at Navarro College will hold a special telescopic viewing event of the Venus Transit from 5 to 10 p.m. Admission is free. Roughly every 122 years, Venus crosses directly between the Earth and the Sun. This rare event is called a transit and it happens today. The planetarium staff will have telescopes set up outside for viewing of the transit until sunset. After sunset, the telescopes may be trained on Mars and Saturn. Additionally, a live video stream of the entire Venus transit will be projected inside the planetarium, which will go on regardless if weather prevents outside viewing.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 12th, 2012 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West 7th Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.
