Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. Guns and Hoses, a Relay for Life team made up of peace officers and fire fighters, is raising money for the Navarro County Relay for Life. The Third Annual BBQ Dinner fundraiser will take place starting at 6 p.m. at the VG Center, formerly Whitesell’s Lumberyard in Corsicana.



Olé Foods is holding a fundraiser BBQ to support Relay for Life. Sliced beef sandwiches and hot links that come with chips and drink will be sold for $5. “R&R BBQ” will be the cook for the day. Navarro County Genealogical Society meets four times each year. The Republican Party Of Navarro County will hold its next County Executive Committee Meeting at 7 p.m. at the Republican headquarters located at 111-B W. Third Ave. in downtown Corsicana. The special guest will be motivational speaker and political commentator, Nick A. Adams from Australia, author of the book “America: The Greatest Good,” and he is also currently on a speaking tour all over Texas. Ellis County Master Gardener’s Lawn & Garden Expo. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Waxahachie Civic Center.



Relay for Life is to benefit from a music festival to be held at Lakeside United Methodist Church, 515 FM 416 (southside of Richland Chambers Lake) from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy the entertainment provided by TinTop Road, Corsicana Cloggers, Tex and Mary Schutz, Todd Jones and the Groove Tones, Zanada Talley Schoppert and Against the Wind, plus UMC ensembles. Proceeds from the booths and donations will go to the Relays out of Navarro and Freestone Counties. Booths will offer food, plants, crafts, face painting, homemade baked goods, jams and jellies, and luminaries for both Navarro and Freestone Relays. There will also be a quilt drawing. A table will be set up to entertain the kids. The Carter Bloodmobile will be on site.

Corsicana Brick Street Farmers Market is a member of the Texas Certified Farmers Market Corporation (TCFMC). Each year TCFMC awards one $1500 Marvin George Jr. Memorial Scholarship to a graduating senior or current college student with the intentions of pursuing a degree in an agricultural field.     On Saturday, a large group of women gathered at the IOOF Special Event Center, and they ranged in age from late 20s to mid-40s. Their common denominator?
    All had played softball under the coaching and tutelage of Don Woodcock at a point in their lives.

    As of Monday afternoon, 1,452 people had cast ballots in the county, state and national primary elections going on now in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, according to Elections Administrator Danda Parker.
    Early voting hours are 8 to 5 p.m. for the rest of the week, ending at 5 p.m. Friday. Election day is May 29.
