A fight leukemia fundraiser will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at 214 Beaton St., in front of Artistic Edge Hair Salon. There will be live music by Skinny Don Keeling/Gail Cogburn and the Pure Classic Country Band, playing gospel and country music. Beaton Street will be blocked off between Fourth and Fifth St. on Beaton. Tickets will be sold for a drawing, and food will be sold. Navarro College Adult Education Program is offering free ESL and GED classes in Corsicana. Students must be at least 18 years old to participate. Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., from July 5, through Aug. 12, Monday through Thursday each week. Space is extremely limited. The Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce will host a barbecue contest, crowning the best barbecue cook in Navarro County at 11 a.m. in Bunert Park following the Juneteenth Parade. The cook-off contest will include ribs, brisket, chicken and sauce, with prizes for each category. A softball tournament is also forming for that same day, and entertainment will be provided by the Gospel Five and Navarro Cloggers. Cooks can set up at the park as early as 5 p.m. Friday, but must be in place by 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. Parade participants should line up at Brookshire’s by 10 a.m. The parade will conclude at Bunert Park.

Former players reunite to pay tribute to Woodcock

Don Woodcock has both — but he has something else to show for a big portion of his life.
On Saturday, a large group of women gathered at the IOOF Special Event Center, and they ranged in age from late 20s to mid-40s. Their common denominator?
All had played softball under the coaching and tutelage of Don Woodcock at a point in their lives. -
Early voting enters second week
As of Monday afternoon, 1,452 people had cast ballots in the county, state and national primary elections going on now in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, according to Elections Administrator Danda Parker.
Early voting hours are 8 to 5 p.m. for the rest of the week, ending at 5 p.m. Friday. Election day is May 29. -
