Corsicana —
A tire disposal day will take place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at the County Precinct Barn 1, which is at the intersection of West Highway 31 and FM 2555, across from CiCi’s Pizza.
The cost is $1 per passenger tire, $5 for 18-wheeler tires, and $10 for tractor tires.
The expense of having the tires hauled away is being underwritten by the Tarrant Regional Water District, which has an interest in keeping the watershed clean; and the Trinity River Authority, both of which gave grants to help with the tire day, according to Logan Lair, Navarro AgriLife Extension Agent.
“If we didn’t get the donation from them, those prices would be considerably higher,” Lair said. “It’s expensive to have the tires hauled off, but the donations from Tarrant Regional help offset the cost.”
Only Navarro County residents will be allowed to bring tires, and the driver must show a driver’s license to prove residency. All loads must be tied down, and no commercial tire dealers or haulers will be allowed to dispose of tires in this event.
Help will be available on that day to unload tires.
The tires from the disposal day will be hauled away and recycled. Last year, the tires were shredded and used in a concrete plant, Lair said.
“They get recycled into something,” he said.
