Corsicana —
Employees of the Corsicana Independent School District could be receiving some good news soon.
Corsicana Independent School District Trustees will vote to approve a budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year in August. A highlight of the proposed budget includes a pay increase of up to 3 percent for all CISD employees.
Trustees were told of the plans for the pay raises by CISD Superintendent Dr. Diane Frost during their meeting this week.
“The Board and administration have consistently applied the principles of good stewardship over the budget, so that, even during times of significant cuts across the state, we can continue to increase our expectations for student achievement and recognize the efforts of our dedicated staff,” Frost said in a news release on the plans.
“Our superintendent and Mike Nielsen (assistant superintendent of business) have given us a tentative ‘thumbs up’ in their first perusal of the budget,” said Kerri Anderson-Donica, president of the CISD Board of Trustees. “We want to be economically frugal with our constituent’s tax dollars while rewarding our amazing and valuable employees.”
The last pay increase for CISD staff was a 3 percent increase in 2010-2011.
Frost said a 3 percent increase for employees represents approximately $1.5 million in a $45 million budget (the amount of the 2011-2012 budget for the district.)
Final certified tax rolls being issued this week will enable the CISD and other entities to make final budget adjustments ahead of approval.
The CISD fiscal year runs from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31 each year.
