June 10

June 11

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 22 will hold its meeting at 4 p.m. at the post, 632 N. Beaton St., Corsicana. All auxiliary members who are available will attend to help work with the new officers in setting up 2011/2012 schedule of events, and sign-up for new committees forming. Angels of Corsicana Troop Support, 1020 N. Bus. 45, Corsicana, will meet at 9 a.m. to pack for the troops oversees. Everyone is welcome. They wish to thank everyone for the cards and letters, donated along with items to ship to military members. Anyone who has a military member leaving for duty overseas should feel free to contact the Angels. Kerens Riding Club Ranch Rodeo, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Kerens Riding Club Arena, five miles south on FM 309 off Hwy. 31. Admission is $5. Children age 6 and under will be admitted for no charge. There will be 10 four-person teams, which will compete in five events: mugging, trailer loading, doctoring, branding, and wild cow milking. The entry fee is $300 per team. June 12

Post Oak Cemetery Associations’ annual luncheon will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Roane Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Bring a covered dish. Visitors are welcome. For more information, call Lisa Jacobs at (903) 345-9400.



Pleasant Hall and Greenbrier Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Chapel Church in Winkler. Midway Cemetery is having its memorial services and lunch. There will be an 11 a.m. church service followed by a short business meeting, followed by lunch, for which attendees provide for themselves. Plates, knives, forks, napkins, cups, and ice will be provided. In case of inclement weather, there will be signs posted at Midway church directing you to a meeting place. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between August 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

A fight leukemia fundraiser will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at 214 Beaton St., in front of Artistic Edge Hair Salon. There will be live music by Skinny Don Keeling/Gail Cogburn and the Pure Classic Country Band, playing gospel and country music. Beaton Street will be blocked off between Fourth and Fifth St. on Beaton. Tickets will be sold for a drawing, and food will be sold. It will be an evening of lots of good, clean entertainment, providing for a family atmosphere. Dylan Barber will be a special guest. Navarro College Adult Education Program is offering free ESL and GED classes in Corsicana. Students must be at least 18 years old to participate. Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., from July 5, through Aug. 12, Monday through Thursday each week. Space is extremely limited. Interested students must attend the registration workshop at Navarro College. Corsicana Campus, in the Bain Center, room 400. The American Legion Post 22 is holding its third annual brisket, spare rib, and jackpot bean contest. To enter brisket and ribs the cost will be $40 and Beans will be $10. Registration will be at noon on Friday at the post, 632 N. Beaton St., Corsicana. Judging will be at noon on Saturday, followed by lunch plates for $7, and a sandwich and chips will be sold for $5. There will be a garage sale on Saturday. Breakfast will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. for $5. Limited RV spaces are available. Emhouse School Reunion

Mildred Eagles Cheerleaders are partnering with Beck Animal Clinic to sponsor a low cost vaccination clinic at Mildred High School from 10 a.m. to noon. The Navarro County Humane Society will also be onsite for adoptions and they will collect donated dry or canned dog and/or cat food.

Golf at the Oaks will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Oak Trail Gold Course, 2501 N. Bus. 45, Corsicana. Space will only permit a maximum of 30 students. The instructors will be Spencer Wilson, and Golf Pro, Jonathan Roberson. They will teach boys and girls the exciting game of beginner’s golf. Students who have clubs should bring them.     Don Woodcock has both — but he has something else to show for a big portion of his life.
    On Saturday, a large group of women gathered at the IOOF Special Event Center, and they ranged in age from late 20s to mid-40s. Their common denominator?
    All had played softball under the coaching and tutelage of Don Woodcock at a point in their lives.

    As of Monday afternoon, 1,452 people had cast ballots in the county, state and national primary elections going on now in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, according to Elections Administrator Danda Parker.
    Early voting hours are 8 to 5 p.m. for the rest of the week, ending at 5 p.m. Friday. Election day is May 29.

    Organizers of the Corsicana/Navarro County Clean Up Day scheduled for June 2 have advised the Daily Sun of new hours for the event.

    The countywide Clean Up Day is being held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day, not until 2 p.m. as previously announced.
