Athens Freshwater Fishery hosts photo exhibit

From Staff Reports

ATHENS — A collection of 20 photomicrographs from around the globe will be on display at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center from Sept. 1 through Oct. 4.

Photomicrographs are images of tiny objects taken through microscopes, revealing the inner beauty of things that appear ordinary to the naked eye.

One of the more arresting images in the exhibition is the fifth-place photograph taken by Charles Kazilek of Arizona State University. This image, from an area that is no larger than a period at the end of a sentence, shows what eye-popping colors and structures are in sheets of paper. Kazilek, who has degrees in both science and art, captured this image as part of an ongoing project that studies historic and contemporary handmade papers.

The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is located at 5550 F.M. 2495 in Athens, about 36 miles east of Corsicana. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5.50 adults, $4.50 seniors, and $3.50 children ages 4 through 12.
