County commissioners to meet on land sale

Corsicana —

Navarro County commissioners will meet  in a special meeting at 4:15 p.m. Friday to discuss an offer on some land for sale.

In January, the county and the city offered for sale a parcel of property, 205 acres. The land was bought in order to prevent a rendering plant from locating on Interstate 45 more than a decade ago. Currently, the county runs a herd of cows on the property.

“We’ve gotten an offer, but it looks like we need to get an independent appraisal,” said County Judge H.M. Davenport. “We need to see if it’s in the ballpark.”

In addition, the county commissioners can officially accept some recycled road from the Texas Department of Transportation. The ground-up bits of old roads can be used to supplement the county’s road materials, Davenport said.

“We can use it everywhere,” he said.
