Corsicana —
The Corsicana City Council will once again get a chance to decide something about the request for an alcohol and drug counseling center in the Navarro Mall when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The item is also on the work session agenda, which will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The issue came to the council on Oct. 2, but failed to get a motion, so the council didn’t vote on it at all. The request is for a specific use permit for the Lakes to open a counseling center.
Adding to the conflict back in October were petitions signed by businesses and residents around the former mall stating that they were worried about felons and drug-abusers hanging around the mall or around their businesses after hours.
Representatives for The Lakes didn’t present a very clear picture of what is going to be involved at the Corsicana facility, which only confused matters further.
Also on the agenda is a request to amend the city’s Dance Hall and Social Hall ordinance, and a request to abandon a short stretch of utility easement along South Highway 287.
