Crime Reports

Reports from area law enforcement agencies compiled by Daily Sun City Editor Janet Jacobs.

Corsicana Police Department

• A woman called police just after 5 p.m. Thursday to report finding a new bullet in the 600 block of 44th Street.

• A person was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. Friday for possession of drug paraphernalia in the 700 block of East 13th Ave.

• An attempted assault with a deadly weapon was reported at 4 p.m. Thursday in the 1800 block of West Second Ave.

• A tire was taken off a vehicle sometime between Tuesday and Thursday in the 200 block of Trailridge Drive.

• A motorcycle rider was badly injured Wednesday night following a wreck on Oaklawn Drive. The motorcycle was heading east in the 900 block of Oaklawn and decided to pass a car in a no-passing zone, but he was going too fast and hit a curb, which caused him to fly off the motorcycle, which continued down the road without him for some ways. The driver was flown to Parkland for treatment of leg, face, body and internal injuries.

• A burglar broke in the front door of a home in the 300 block of Kenwood, and stole some items sometime Wednesday afternoon.

• A car burglary was reported just before noon Wednesday in the 1500 block of West Seventh Ave.

• Another car burglary was also reported to have taken place sometime overnight Tuesday in the 800 block of South Fourth Street, and yet another burglary was that same night in the 1700 block of West 13th Ave.



Navarro County Sheriff’s Office

• Nine well heads, 1,000 feet of steel pipe and 500 feet of copper wire were stolen from a job site Wednesday near Powell. Estimated loss is $5,250.

• Eight old silver dollars dating back more than 100 years, and 32 modern dollar coins were stolen during a home burglary Wednesday  on Northeast County Road 2120 near Kerens.

• Mischief-makers turned on an outside faucet at a woman’s house near Frost and let it run. She believes it was done around 3:30 a.m. Thursday. She called the sheriff’s office to come get some evidence she found near the faucet.

• A retro-style record and CD player, a child’s rifle, an acoustic guitar, and several pieces of jewelry were stolen in a home burglary Wednesday near Corsicana. The total loss is estimated at $2,945.



Rice Police Department

• At about 11 p.m. Monday, Rice police conducted a traffic stop on a gold-colored 2004 Pontiac Grand AM traveling northbound on Interstate 45 for defective headlights. After running a license plate check, the Navarro County Sheriff Dispatcher advise the officer that the vehicle was reported stolen by the Mesquite Police Department.

The vehicle was occupied with two adult males and a juvenile female. The three suspects were taken into custody for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. An 18-year-old male passenger was also charged with Possession of Marijuana after officers found a small baggie of marijuana hidden in his sock. The suspects were transported to the Navarro County Justice Center. The juvenile female was transported to the juvenile detention center in Palestine.

    Early voting will be held on the weekend from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday May 19, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, 300 W. Third Ave., Corsicana.

    Don Woodcock has both — but he has something else to show for a big portion of his life.
    On Saturday, a large group of women gathered at the IOOF Special Event Center, and they ranged in age from late 20s to mid-40s. Their common denominator?
    All had played softball under the coaching and tutelage of Don Woodcock at a point in their lives.

  • Early voting enters second week

    As of Monday afternoon, 1,452 people had cast ballots in the county, state and national primary elections going on now in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse, according to Elections Administrator Danda Parker.
    Early voting hours are 8 to 5 p.m. for the rest of the week, ending at 5 p.m. Friday. Election day is May 29.

    Organizers of the Corsicana/Navarro County Clean Up Day scheduled for June 2 have advised the Daily Sun of new hours for the event.

    The countywide Clean Up Day is being held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day, not until 2 p.m. as previously announced.
