Corsicana —
Two Corsicana men wanted locally on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child are now in custody of law enforcement officials in Hawaii.
At about 10:30 a.m. Central Daylight time (5:30 a.m. Hawaii time) Friday, the two fugitives from Corsicana were arrested at the Honolulu, Hawaii International Airport with assistance from the Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Sheriff’s Department, Department of Homeland Security, and the Dallas and Honolulu offices of the United States Marshal’s Service.
Tarius Manuere, 43, of Corsicana and his brother, Noah Manuere, 40, also of Corsicana, remain in custody in Hawaii. Both fugitives were arrested on a warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child, which is a first degree felony. The warrants had been obtained by Corsicana Police Det. Ronni Phillips on Jan. 8, 2013, from Justice of the Peace Kirby Hill.
Corsicana Police Chief Randy Bratton said fugitives were arrested without incident before they could depart on a United Airlines plane for the island of Majuro, which is part of the Federated States of Micronesia, which consists of hundreds of small islands in the South Pacific. The United States does not currently have an extradition treaty with the Federated States of Micronesia. Both fugitives will be held at the Honolulu Police Department Jail pending extradition back to Corsicana.
Bratton said the department got word of the suspects’ location and travel plans Thursday afternoon from federal authorities, and got to work coordinating with federal agents, the Hawaii police authorities, and the Navarro County District Attorney’s office should the agencies be successful in apprehending the pair.
Bratton commended Det. Phillips, along with Sgt. Mark Nanny and Det. Michael Dockery, for their hard work in helping track down the two men. Bratton also commended all the law enforcement agencies and the Navarro County District Attorney’s Office for working together to apprehend the fugitives.
Arrangements to transport the pair back to Texas are underway, Bratton said Friday.

Police department open house Tuesday

An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.

For the third straight year, Bowie students and faculty have “Teamed Up to Fight Cancer” — and each team was armed with a catchy name, a sports theme, and its own banner and sporty accessories. Bowie Elementary School is an important part of the success of American Cancer Society’s Navarro County Relay for Life. This year, they raised $4,100.52 for cancer research, bringing their three-year total to over $15,000.
